Abstract

Early diagnosis of Invasive Aspergillosis, caused by Aspergillus fumigates, in immunocomromised patient is playing essential role in reducing mortality, but the conventional diagnostic tools, currently used to detect the infections, which is sputum culture, have low sensitivity and specificity.

In this study, we applied Nested- PCR to diagnose the infection on two kinds of samples (sputum and blood), collected from immunosuppressed patients. The study shows high sensitivity and specificity of Nested-PCR to detect the infection in sputum better than blood samples, compared with diagnosis method used in the laboratories of Damascus university, which are culture in Sabouraud that need more time. This shows the importance of using this modern technology to reach early diagnosis.
