Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ammar Al-khayat

A Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control, with more than four decades of academic and research experience at Damascus University and the Arab International University. He also possesses prominent administrative experience, having previously served as the Vice Dean for Administrative Affairs at Damascus University for nearly five years.

He holds a State Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences – Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry from the University of Montpellier I, France, along with two Diplomas of Advanced Studies (DEA) in Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry and Organic Chemistry from the same university, in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Damascus University. He began his academic career as a teaching assistant at Damascus University, progressing to the rank of Professor, then served as the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control at Damascus University for 14 years. He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control at the Faculty of Pharmacy – Arab International University since 2021.

He has taught core courses in Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry, and Drug Synthesis at several Syrian and Arab universities, and has supervised numerous Master’s and PhD theses in the specialties of pharmaceutical chemistry and drug control.

He has published more than 25 scientific researches in international peer-reviewed journals, addressing various topics such as the development of pharmaceutical analytical methods using HPLC and GC, studies on the purity of pharmaceutical products, as well as recent research on protease inhibitors for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and new compounds with anti-cancer activity. He has also authored several university textbooks on practical and theoretical Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, which are taught in Syrian faculties of pharmacy.
