The Automated Technology for Veri?cation and Analysis (ATVA) international symposium series was initiated in 2003, The main topics of the symposium include th- ries useful for providing designers with automated support for obtaining correct software or hardware systems, as well as the implementation of such theories in tools or their application. In the end, 35 papers were selected for inclusion in the program. ATVA 2006 had three keynote speeches given respectively by Thomas Ball, Jin Yang, and Mihalis Yannakakis. The main symposium was preceded by a tutorial day, consisting of three two-hourlectures given by the keynotespeakers.

The 18th Australian Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI 2005) was held at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), Sydney, Australia from 5 to 9 December 2005. AI 2005 attracted a historical record number of submissions, a total of 535 papers. This volume of the proceedings contains the abstracts of three keynote speeches and all the full and short papers. The full papers were categorized into three broad sections, namely: AI foundations and technologies, computational intelligence, and AI in specialized domains. The conference of the 1st IEEE Pacisc-Rim Symposium on Image and Video Technology (PSIVT 2006) was held at Hsinchu, Taiwan, Republic of China, on December 11–13, 2006. This volume contains papers selected for presentation at this conference. The aim of this conference was to bring together theoretical advances and practical implementations contributing to, or being involved in, image and video technology. PSIVT 2006 featured a comprehensive program including tutorials, keynote and invited talks, oral paper presentations, and posters. We received 450 s- missions from 22 countries and accepted 141 papers among those (i.e., de?ning an acceptance rate of 31.3%). The intention was to establish PSIVT as a t- quality series of symposia. Decisions were discult sometimes, but we hope that the ?nal result is acceptable to all involved.
