Model-Based Software and Data Integration ; 1st International Workshop, MBSDI 2008, Berlin, Germany, April 1-3, 2008. Proceedings

The First International Workshop on Model-Based Software and Data Integ- tion (MBSDI 2008), was ourfrst event of this kind in a forthcoming series of activities at TU Berlin, where a scientifc discussion and exchange forum was provided for both academic and industrial researchers. We aimed at researchers, engineersand practitionerswho focus onadvanced, model-basedsolutions inthe area of software and information integration and interoperability. As withevery beginning, the resonanceonour callsin today's overfoodingof workshops was somewhat unpredictable, and we did not really know how many paper submissions to expect. We were nicely surprised, considering the rather short lead time to organize the meeting and the very specialized and focused topic.

Integrated Science in Digital Age ; ICIS 2019

The ICIS 2019 received roughly 50 contributions, by authors hailing from six countries. Following a peer-review process, the Scientific Committee – a multidisciplinary group of 110 experts from 38 countries around the globe – selected roughly 60% for publication. The main topics covered include: Artificial Intelligence Research; Digital Business & Finance; Educational Sciences; Health Management Informatics; Public Administration in the Digital Age; and Social Problem-solving.

Food lens = فود لينس

Food lens is an innovative application designed to revolutionize dietary management by leveraging advanced image recognition and nutritional analysis. The primary objective of this senior project is to develop a user-friendly tool that identifies various foods through a camera interface and provides detailed nutritional information. This application not only enhances the user's understanding of their dietary intake but also assists in achieving personalized health and fitness goals. The core functionality of Food Lens involves the integration of a robust image recognition system capable of accurately identifying a wide range of foods. Upon identification, the application retrieves comprehensive nutritional data, including calorie content, macronutrient distribution (proteins, fats, carbohydrates), and essential micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). This data is then seamlessly integrated into the user's dietary profile. Food Lens is designed to track the user's daily caloric intake and compare it against personalized recommendations based on age, gender, weight, height, and activity level. By maintaining a dynamic record of consumed foods, the application provides real-time feedback on the user’s nutritional progress. This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals aiming to manage weight, address dietary restrictions, or improve overall health.

Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements in Arid Environments

Global warming has worsened the water resource crisis in many arid zones worldwide, from Africa to Asia, affecting millions of people and putting them at risk of hunger. Effective management of arid zone resources, including understanding the risks of toxic trace and heavy elements to humans, coupled with the need to produce more food to feed the world’s growing population, has thus become increasingly important. This very timely book, the only one of its kind on the market, fills the gap of our knowledge of trace elements in these regions. This book begins by introducing the nature and properties of arid zone soil, followed by an updated overview and comprehensive coverage of the major aspects of the trace elements and heavy metals of most concern in the world’s arid and semi-arid soils. These aspects include: - content and distribution - solution chemistry - solid-phase chemistry - selective sequential dissolution techniques - transfer fluxes - bioavailability - pollution and remediation In order to illustrate the themes, a comprehensive and focused case study on transfer fluxes of trace elements in Israeli arid soils is presented. Finally it closes with the global perspectives on anthropogenic interferences in the natural trace elements’ distribution.

Biofuels, Solar and Wind as Renewable Energy Systems : Benefits and Risks

With shortages of fossil energy, especially oil and natural gas, and heavy biomass energy use occurring in both developed and developing countries, a major focus has developed worldwide on renewable energy systems. Renewable energy systems include wind power, biomass, photovoltaics, hydropower, solar thermal, thermal ponds, and biogas. Currently, a heavy focus is on biofuels made from crops, such as corn, sugarcane, and soybeans, for use as renewable energy sources. Wood and crop residues also are being used as fuel. Though it may seem beneficial to use renewable plant materials for biofuel, the use of crop residues and other biomass for biofuels raises many concerns about major environmental problems, including food shortages and serious destruction of vital soil resources.

Bioactive components of milk

Of all food products dairy foods have the most potential concerning functional foods. Therefore, there is a tremendous amount of interest in value-added milk products and the identification of components in food which have health benefits. Bioactive Components of Milk provides an overview of these derived components and their diverse activities including: the stimulation of beneficial microflora, alerting the immune system to the presence of potential pathogens and allergens, binding and eliminating toxins, etc. The book is divided into four parts. The first part focuses on bioactive milk lipid components, which very widely among mammalian species. The second part describes different aspects of biological active colostrums and milk proteins and their derivatives, with special concern on species specific effects. The third part reviews the production of recombinant human proteins in the milk of livestock animals - including ethical issues - and the aims of altering milk composition for the benefit of both the animals themselves and the consumers. The final part focuses on the influence of ruminants nutrition on the biological activity of milk.

Artificial intelligence techniques in hydrology and water resources management

The sustainable management of water cycles is crucial in the context of climate change and global warming. It involves managing global, regional, and local water cycles, as well as urban, agricultural, and industrial water cycles, to conserve water resources and their relationships with energy, food, microclimates, biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and anthropogenic activities. Hydrological modeling is indispensable for achieving this goal, as it is essential for water resources management and the mitigation of natural disasters. In recent decades, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in hydrology and water resources management has led to notable advances. In the face of hydro-geo-meteorological uncertainty, AI approaches have proven to be powerful tools for accurately modeling complex, nonlinear hydrological processes and effectively utilizing various digital and imaging data sources, such as ground gauges, remote sensing tools, and in situ Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Android smart health monitoring system

Recent years have witnessed an increasing interest in the application of machine learning to clinical informatics and healthcare system never forgetting that the data also states that half of the world's population uses mobile devices. Despite of the existence of tons of applications, algorithms, and systems, the achievement of prescribing proper food that is suitable for patient health case based on face health status, height, weight, daily calories etc.., wasn’t achieved yet because of the lack of knowledge in food therapy process. Our system provides the service of food suggestion based on the input that is inserted by the user in sign-up form which are (height, weight, age, etc….).
