Prof. Dr. Hussine Abo Hamed
A Professor of Physiology in the Department of Life Sciences and one of the most prominent academics and researchers in the fields of physiology and neurobiology in Syria. He holds a State Doctorate in Neurobiology from Louis Pasteur University – Strasbourg (France), along with postgraduate diplomas in Behavioral Biology and Human Biology from the same university. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Damascus University and later earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Omdurman Islamic University in Sudan.
He began his academic career in the early 1970s, progressing through scientific ranks to the level of Professor. He has chaired multiple academic departments and held prominent union and national positions, including President of the Teachers' Union at Damascus University and at the level of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as membership in the Damascus University Council and the Council of Higher Education.
He served as a visiting professor at Omdurman Islamic University (Sudan) and taught physiology in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy at several Syrian public and private universities. He played a pivotal role in establishing and managing physiological research laboratories and scientific research units in the Department of Life Sciences at Damascus University, where he developed advanced research frameworks in oral, facial, and nervous system biology.
Following his retirement from Damascus University, he continued teaching at the Syrian Private University, Al-Andalus University, Al-Jazeera University, and the Arab International University until 2026. His scientific research has focused on neurobiology, dopamine functions, motor behavior, masticatory system disorders, oral physiology, and the relationship between oral disorders and systemic diseases. He has published a large number of scientific papers in international and local peer-reviewed journals and participated in joint research with international teams.
He has significant contributions to academic authorship and translation; alongside his research, he has authored and translated more than 25 books in physiology, neuroscience, oral biology, and medical sciences, which serve as essential references for Syrian and Arab university students. He also holds two patents for research devices related to motor activity and mastication.
