Dr. Mohammad Talas
Faculty Member at the College of Informatics – Arab International University
A researcher and academic specializing in applied statistics and operations research, with extensive scientific and research experience in mathematical modeling, mathematical optimization, linear and nonlinear programming, multi-objective optimization, and solving inverse problems in geophysics. He currently serves as the Head of the Scientific Services Department and Research Director at the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission, where he leads and oversees advanced research in the applied fields of statistics and operations research.

He obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics (Operations Research) from the University of Brussels in Belgium and a Master’s degree in Graph Theory from the University of Leuven, Belgium. In 2005, he was awarded the Salam Prize in Mathematics in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions as a young researcher.

With extensive teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate education, he has taught courses in statistics, probability, and operations research at several Syrian universities, including the Arab International University and the Syrian Virtual University. He has also participated in specialized diploma programs supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency. His teaching interests focus on connecting the theoretical concepts of mathematical techniques with their practical applications in informatics, management, engineering, and medical sciences.

He has published over 38 scientific papers in prestigious international peer-reviewed journals, addressing the development of efficient algorithms for network flow problems, multi-objective optimization, statistical analysis, and applications of mathematics in geophysics and nuclear sciences. He has also authored and co-authored numerous specialized technical reports in Arabic and contributed to the development of software and computational algorithms used in scientific analysis and decision-making. Additionally, he has participated in advanced international workshops and scientific schools in Europe, strengthening his research presence at both regional and international levels.
