Prof. Dr. Marwan Zabibi

He is one of the most prominent Syrian experts in the fields of digital communications digital signal processing information security and electronic systems design possessing a significant professional and scientific career that combines advanced scientific research academic work university administration and participation in strategic national projects. He holds a PhD in Digital Communications and Speech Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom following a pioneering thesis on the development of a phonemic acoustic approach for automatic Arabic word recognition and he also earned a Diploma in Electronic Design Engineering from the Philips International Institute in the Netherlands and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering – Electronics from Damascus University. Since joining the Arab International University in 2009 he has held several leadership positions including Dean of Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies from 2017 to 2025 Vice President for Medical Faculties from 2018 to 2021 Vice President for Scientific Affairs from 2013 to 2016 Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Communications Engineering from 2011 to 2014 and Head of the Informatics Engineering Department from 2009 to 2010. He currently serves as a faculty member teaching courses in information systems security digital circuits and computer and society. Prior to joining the university he worked for more than 25 years at the Scientific Studies and Research Center where he led research and development projects in electronic communications digital systems information security and advanced systems design rising through various positions to become the Director of the Electronics Research Institute. He participated in the preparation and implementation of major national projects for the Ministries of Communications and Interior and contributed to strategic national committees such as the Syria 2025 project – Foreseeing the Future of Science and Technology in Syria as well as legislation committees for cybercrime and intellectual property in addition to his role in developing automation projects ID cards and modern passports. He has published a number of scientific research papers in the fields of automatic speech recognition digital communications and information security in prestigious international journals and conferences in the United Kingdom Japan Kuwait Jordan and Syria and he has co-authored and translated reference books taught in Syrian universities.
