Prof. Dr. Khalil Ajami

 

He is an academic and researcher specializing in informatics engineering and information systems modeling, currently serving as Vice President of the Arab International University for Student Affairs and Administrative Affairs. He holds a PhD in Informatics Engineering with a specialization in Information Systems Modeling from Paris VI University (Université Pierre & Marie Curie) and the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST) in France. He also earned a Master’s degree in Informatics Engineering with a specialization in Information Systems from Paris V University (Université René Descartes) and ENST, a postgraduate diploma in Informatics Engineering with a focus on Software Engineering and Information Systems from the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Damascus, and a Bachelor’s degree in Informatics Engineering (Software Engineering) from the same institute.

He has over three decades of academic and administrative experience in higher education and digital transformation, holding multiple leadership positions, including:

  • President of the Syrian Virtual University (2016–2025)

  • Vice President of the Syrian Virtual University for Student and Administrative Affairs (2013–2016)

  • Head of the Informatics Department at the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (2009–2013)

  • Director of the Bachelor’s Program in Information Technology at the Syrian Virtual University (2005–2016)

He has contributed to the development of virtual and digital education, management of national academic programs, and leadership of automation and digital transformation projects in higher education institutions. He has served on high-level national committees, including those for digital transformation, scientific research, and curriculum development, and participated in international projects such as EumedGrid-Support for high-performance computing.

He has published numerous research papers and books in the fields of virtual education, digital content, artificial intelligence, and software engineering, including:

  • Automata and Compilers (2007)

  • Linux Administration Handbook (2003)

  • CISCO Routers Black Book (2002)

  • Peer-reviewed papers in international journals and conferences on e-learning, academic performance evaluation, and formal verification of systems

He is a pioneering figure in developing virtual education and digital transformation in Syria and a recognized authority in software engineering and information systems, combining deep academic expertise with effective administrative leadership.
