Dr. Zena hadad
A specialized academic in biomedical engineering with extensive experience in university teaching and scientific research. She earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Damascus University, where her dissertation focused on developing a computer-assisted thermal imaging system for breast cancer detection. She also holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, with a thesis on delineating mass boundaries in breast ultrasound images using the level set method. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Damascus University.
She has held several academic positions, including a full-time faculty role at the College of Information and Communications Engineering at the Arab International University, where she taught courses such as Image Processing and Analysis, Signals and Systems, and Computer Graphics, in addition to supervising applied projects. Since 2023, she has also worked at the Syrian Virtual University (SVU), teaching courses in programming and information technology. Furthermore, since 2010, she has served as a seconded teaching engineer in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Damascus University, overseeing multiple laboratories, including those focused on Medical Electronics, Medical Image Processing using MATLAB, Biomedical Control, Radiation Physics, and Applied Biomedical Engineering at Al-Assad University Hospital and Al-Mowasat Hospital.
She has published several peer-reviewed scientific papers in Syrian journals, including topics such as using the level set method to identify mass boundaries in ultrasound images, segmenting breast thermal images with the level set method, and employing thermal imaging for early breast cancer detection. She has also contributed to developing advanced methods for breast cancer detection using colored thermal images and computational techniques.
In addition to her academic work, she possesses advanced scientific and technical skills, including ICDL, MATLAB, C++, Python, Neural Networks, and Business Management.
