Dr. Reem Al Sihnawy
Faculty member at the College of Civil Engineering – Arab International University
Researcher and university professor specializing in seismic structural engineering, currently serving as the Dean of the Higher Institute for Seismic Research and Studies at Damascus University. She earned her Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the Autonomous University of Japan, where she conducted advanced experimental research on the dynamic behavior of bridges under vibrations, in addition to a bachelor's degree in structural engineering from the College of Civil Engineering in Damascus.
She currently holds the position of Dean of the Higher Institute for Seismic Research and Studies at Damascus University, after previously serving as the Scientific Deputy of the Institute and Head of the Seismic Structural Engineering Department. She is also a faculty member at Damascus University and a lecturer at the Arab International University, where she teaches advanced courses in structural analysis, mechanics of materials, and reinforced concrete, and supervises student graduation projects.
She has an extensive record of scientific research published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals locally and internationally, covering vital topics such as seismic performance evaluation of buildings, improving the response of bridges and structures to vibrations, and the use of hybrid isolation techniques. She is also the principal supervisor of numerous Master's theses and Ph.D. dissertations and participates as a committee member for several prestigious scientific journals and conferences.
Her academic career has been met with notable recognition; she recently received the Young Syrian Researcher Award from the Syrian Academy of Young Female Researchers at Damascus University in 2024, in appreciation of her outstanding research contributions. She had previously been awarded the Basil Excellence Certificate during her undergraduate studies.
In addition to her specialized expertise, she has practical experience using a wide range of specialized engineering software and is fluent in Japanese.
