Dr. Eng. Yaser Shammaa.
An engineer and academic, Dr. Shamma is a professor of Civil Engineering (Water Resources and Environmental Engineering) at the Arab International University, with over thirty years of academic and professional experience in the fields of water engineering, hydraulics, and hydrology. He has worked in university teaching and academic administration, serving for several years as the Assistant Dean for Academic and Administrative Affairs at the College of Civil Engineering at the Arab International University. In addition, he teaches fundamental and advanced courses in fluid mechanics, hydrology, water and sanitation engineering, and hydraulic structures.
He holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Water Resources) from the University of Alberta in Canada, a Master's degree in Water and Environmental Engineering from the same university, a postgraduate diploma in Hydrology from the University of Padua in Italy, and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Damascus. He also worked as a researcher and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Alberta, participating in advanced laboratory research in areas such as stratified flow, jets, and selective withdrawal.
Dr. Shamma has a distinguished research record, with publications in prestigious international scientific journals such as the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering (ASCE) and the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, along with extensive participation in international conferences and workshops. His research interests focus on selective withdrawal from stratified reservoirs, jets, stormwater management, statistical analysis of hydrological data, and water system sustainability.
In addition to his academic work, he possesses extensive applied engineering experience in preparing hydrological studies, designing irrigation and drainage networks, and flood protection structures. He has contributed to urban and water planning projects in both Syria and Canada. Recognized for his strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as his expertise in quality assurance and academic accreditation, Dr. Shamma has been a member of the Syrian Engineers Syndicate since 1996.
