Enhanced Radio Access Technologies for Next Generation Mobile Communication
Enhanced Radio Access Technologies for Next Generation Mobile Communication presents a comphrenhensive overview of the latest technology developments in the field Mobile Communications. This monograph focuses on the fundamentals of mobile communications technology and systems, including the history and service evolution of mobile communications and environments. Further to this, CDMA technology including spread spectrum, orthogonal and PN codes are introduced. Other important aspects include fundamentals of single carrier CDMA technologies, DS CDMA, Broadband CDMA with frequency domain equalizer, and multi-carrier CDMA technology for high speed data transmission including MC-DS/CDMA, MC-CDMA. Finally aspects of modern cellular systems such as cdma2000/1xEv-Do/1xEv-Dv and WCDMA/HSDPA are introduced and existing and developing wireless data services, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, WiBro/Mobile WiMAX, and digital broadcasting services like DVB, DMB, ISDBT are described.

We are delighted to present the proceedings of the 8th IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Management of Multimedia Networks and Services (MMNS 2005). The MMNS 2005 conference was held in Barcelona, Spain on October 24–26, 2005. As in previous years, the conference brought together an international audience of researchers and scientists from industry and academia who are researching and developing state-of-the-art management systems, while creating a public venue for results dissemination and intellectual collaboration. This year marked a challenging chapter in the advancement of management systems for the wider management research community, with the growing complexities of the “so-called” multimedia over Internet, the proliferation of alternative wireless networks (WLL, WiFi and WiMAX) and 3G mobile services, intelligent and high-speed networks scalable multimedia services and the convergence of computing and communications for data, voice and video delivery. Contributions from the research community met this challenge with 65 paper submissions; 33 high-quality papers were subsequently selected to form the MMNS 2005 technical program. The diverse topics in this year’s program included wireless networking technologies, wireless network applications, quality of services, multimedia, Web applications, overlay network management, and bandwidth management.
Broadband Fixed Wireless Access : A System Perspective
Broadband Fixed Wireless Access provides a systematic overview of the emerging WiMax technology, and much of the material is based on the practical experiences of the authors in building broadband wireless systems. This material will be of significant interest to network architects and developers of broadband fixed wireless access products. With the adoption of the IEEE 802.16 standard and the advent of next generation equipment, the WiMax technology has been growing in interest. The authors discuss applications at microwave frequencies between 2 and 11 GHz that could be attractive options for operators without an existing access infrastructure for reaching end users with broadband services.
