New Trends of Surgery for Cerebral Stroke and its Perioperative Management

In July 2004 specialists in neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neurology and neurointensive care discussed recent trends at the 2nd Swiss Japanese Joint Conference on Cerebral Stroke Surgery, held in Zurich, Switzerland. New concepts were worked out during the conference and are published in this volume. The book starts with the topic intracranial aneurysms, discussing microsurgical and endovascular treatment modalities, as well as new surgical approaches. Further chapters deal with the management of unruptured aneurysms and with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Practical guidelines for vasospasm treatment are given. Together with contributions about arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, cerebral revascularization techniques and surgery related to the intracranial venous system a comprehensive overview about stroke surgery is given with an interdisciplinary approach. The book will be of interest for all specialists involved in therapy of cerebrovascular disease.

Musculoskeletal Diseases : Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Techniques

Written by internationally renowned experts, this volume is a collection of chapters dealing with imaging diagnosis and interventional therapies in musculoskeletal diseases. The different topics are disease-oriented and encompass all the relevant imaging modalities including X-ray technology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and magnetic resonance, as well as image-guided interventional techniques. This book represents a condensed version of twenty topics relevant in musculoskeletal disease, and is aimed both at residents in radiology and at experienced radiologists wishing to be updated on the current state-of-the art.

Medicina fisica e riabilitativa nei disturbi di equilibrio = Physical and rehabilitative medicine in balance disorders

Balance disorders are very common in the population: particularly frequent over the age of 40, are the first motivation for a medical examination after the age of 65 and frequently tend to become chronic. Balance disorders are symptoms of system dysfunction vestibular, complex sensory-psycho-motor system, whose task is that to control the activity of the antigravity muscles to maintain the erect station, of the oculomotor ones to allow the stabilization of the visual field during movement, and the neurovegetative functions they have relationship with standing and movement. Whether the vestibular system provides the information necessary for the check-up of the erect position, the rachis realizes it through a "stability dynamic ", allowed by its structural characteristics proprioception the spine is also a fundamental sensor for controlling balance ; therefore the techniques of physical and rehabilitative medicine and of manual medicine represent a powerful tool for curing ailments equilibrium. This volume comes from the comparison between a physiatrist and an audiologist, who for 15 years have integrated their clinical experience and therefore proposes a new one inter-specialist approach to the diagnostic and therapeutic problems of patients with balance disorders.

MDCT : A Practical Approach

Computed tomography (CT) is the most rapidly evolving medical imaging technology. This book describes current examination techniques and advanced clinical applications of state-of-the-art multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) scanners in chapters contributed by several distinguished radiologists and clinicians. Each chapter is written from a practical perspective so that radiologists, residents, medical physicists, and radiology technologists can obtain relevant information about MDCT applications in neuroradiology, cardiac imaging, chest, abdominal, and musculoskeletal radiology subspecialties. Each coauthor provides pertinent illustrations and tables for better understanding of current and advanced applications of MDCT scanners. Readers will benefit from the experience these authors describe in chapters on MDCT technology, contrast administration techniques, contrast adverse effects and their management, and advanced applications of MDCT.

Evidence based practice in Neuro-oncology

This book provides evidence-based management in neuro-oncology covering all aspects such as pathology, radiology, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The field of neuro-oncology is rapidly evolving and new evidence is coming out every day towards the optimal management of brain tumors. This necessitates a requirement of a complete guide that shall provide an evidence-based and personalized approach towards dealing with patients. This book also covers recent advances in personalized treatment formed through the relevant basis of anatomy, imaging, radiology, surgical, radiation and systemic treatment of brain and spinal tumors. In addition it also covers the , practical aspects of the planning of the Gamma knife and other radio surgical aspects.

Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery : A Comprehensive Guide with Illustrative Cases

To date, more than three thousand brain and skull base tumors, along with various vascular problems, have been treated by using advanced, fully endoscopic, minimally invasive surgical techniques. In Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery, Dr. Hrayr K. Shahinian compiles these techniques.

Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging of the Brain

Diffusion-weighted MR imaging is widely accepted as a means to identify stroke, thus enabling rapid and effective treatment. Over the past four years, these expert authors have presented over 30 exhibits and scientific reports on diffusion-weighted imaging at the RSNA and the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), and more than 10 of these presentations have been recognized by specific awards. Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging of the Brain’s chapters range from basic principles to interpretation of diffusion-weighted MR imaging and specific disease.

Keyhole Approaches in Neurosurgery : Vol. I Concept and surgical technique

Offers a detailed systematic overview of the different approaches for minimally invasive craniotomies. After a description of the historical development of the particular craniotomy, each chapter illustrates the anatomical construction of the target region and the surgical approach itself with artistic illustrations and photographs of human cadaver dissections.

Atlas of Morphology and Functional Anatomy of the Brain

Divided into a morphological and a functional imaging section. The morphological atlas includes 3D surface images, axial, coronal, and sagittal scans acquired with high-definition T2 fast spin echo (FSE) sequences, and standard and inverted-contrast images. The MR scans are shown side by side with the corresponding anatomical brain sections, provided by Prof. Henri Duvernoy, for more effective comparison. The anatomical nomenclature adopted for both the MR and the anatomical images is listed in an jacket flap for easier consultation.
