Navigation and MIS in Orthopaedic Surgery

This textbook offers new insights into the use of computer assisted surgery and minimally invasive surgery in orthopaedic surgery. A comprehensive presentation of scientific work and clinical experience is included encompassing areas of spine, trauma, sports and reconstructive surgery. We have added sections that discuss minimally invasive surgery, as we believe CAS will be an enabling technology for these more challenging approaches by providing a virtual digital "surgical exposure". We have explored areas of new endeavor that may not have current applications.

Geomagnetics for aeronautical safety : A case study in and around the Balkans

Flying safely in aircraft implies the use of navigation instruments. Among them, the magnetic compass is still a first choice for orientation and it is compulsory in all aircraft. In our increasingly sophisticated but fragile world of global navigation systems and gyroscopic sensors, the compass is especially useful as a back-up: it is highly reliable and likely to survive in harsh electromagnetic aggressions or when all power supplies fail. This book examines in detail how the science of geomagnetism is able to promote correct use of the magnetic compass for navigation. A selected group of specialists met in Ohrid, Macedonia to expose their approaches to the question. Using techniques from Geology, Instrument science, Magnetism, Chaos theory and Potential Fields applied to the Balkan region and surroundings, they put together a roadmap to fully tackle the issue of measurement, analysis, mapping and forecasting the magnetic declination in support of aeronautical safety.

Embedded Security in Cars : Securing Current and Future Automotive IT Applications

Lemke, Paar, and Wolf collect in this volume a state-of-the-art overview on all aspects relevant for IT security in automotive applications. After an introductory chapter written by the editors themselves, the contributions from experienced experts of different disciplines are structured into three parts. "Security in the Automotive Domain" describes applications for which IT security is crucial, like immobilizers, tachographs, and software updates. "Embedded Security Technologies" details security technologies relevant for automotive applications, e.g., symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, and wireless security. "Business Aspects of IT Systems in Cars" shows the need for embedded security in novel applications like location-based navigation systems and personalization.
