Hybrid Systems : Computation and Control ; 11th International Workshop, HSCC 2008, St. Louis, MO, USA, April 22-24, 2008. Proceedings

Contains the proceedings ofthe 11th Workshop on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control (HSCC 2008) held in St. Louis, Missouriduring April 22–24,2008.The annual workshop on hybrid systems focuses on research inbedded ,reactive systems in volving theinterplay between symbolic/switchingand continuous dynamical behaviors. HSCC attracts academic as well as industrial researchers to exchange information on the latest developments of applications and theoretical advancements in the design, analysis, control, optimization, and implementation of hybrid systems, with particular attention to embedded and networked control systems. We would like to thank the Program Committee members and the reviewers for an excellent job of evaluating the submissions and participating in the online Program Committee discussions.

Group Coordination and Cooperative Control

Group coordination and cooperative control are topics currently receiving a lot of interest. Coordinating the motion of a group of relatively simple and inexpensive agents can cover a larger operational area and achieve complex tasks exceeding the abilities of a single agent. This enables applications such as teams of robots for de-mining operations, aerospace formation flying for survey, fleets of AUVs for oceanographic mapping, and ships doing coordinated towing operations. This volume contains the contributions of the workshop. The book covers a wide range of subjects within the area of group coordination and cooperative control, and forms a valuable and up-to-date text on the newer trends in group coordination and cooperative control.

Distributed Consensus in Multi-vehicle Cooperative Control : Theory and Applications

Distributed Consensus in Multi-vehicle Cooperative Control develops distributed consensus strategies designed to ensure that the information states of all vehicles in a network converge to a common value. This approach strengthens the team, minimizing power consumption and the deleterious effects of range and other restrictions.

Cooperative Control : A Post-Workshop Vol., 2003 Block Island Workshop on Cooperative Control

This carefully edited book presents how natural groupings such as fish schools, bird flocks, deer herds etc. coordinate themselves and move so flawlessly, often without an apparent leader or any form of centralized control. It shows how the underlying principles of cooperative control may be used for groups of mobile autonomous agents to help enable a large group of autonomous robotic vehicles in the air, on land or sea or underwater, to collectively accomplish useful tasks such as distributed, adaptive scientific data gathering, search and rescue, or reconnaissance.

Biology and Control Theory : Current Challenges

Creating some links between control feedback and biology modeling communities based on similarities in modeling, observing and perceiving alive structures, and analyzing interconnections between biological structures and subsystems was the main objective of this volume. The idea of this book was conceived in the context mentioned above with the objective to help in claiming many of the problems for control researchers, starting discussions and opening interactive debates between the control and biology communities, and, finally, to alert graduate students to the many interesting ideas at the frontier between control feedback theory and biology.

Advances in Cooperative Control and Optimization ; Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Cooperative Control and Optimization

Each year, the International Conference on Cooperative Control and Optimization (CCO) brings together top researchers from around the world to present new ideas, theories, applications, and advances in the fields of autonomous agents, cooperative systems, control theory, and optimization. The works in this volume are a result of invited papers and selected presentations at the Seventh Annual International Conference on Cooperative Control and Optimization, held in Gainesville, Florida, January 31 – February 2, 2007.The works presented in this book are suitable for faculty, graduate students, and industrial researchers in the fields of optimization, control theory, electrical engineering, computer science, and mathematics.
