Inter-Domain Management ; 1st International conference on autonomous infrastructure, management and security, AIMS 2007, Oslo, Norway, June 21-22, 2007, Proceedings

Therearealreadymanyexcellentconferencesinthe?eldofNetworkofSystem Management : LISA, IM, NOMS, DSOM, Policy Workshop, etc. Although there is an overlap, both in attendance and ideas, AIMS does not compete with any of these. Rather we have sought a strong cross-disciplinary forum, in which novelty and discussion are made paramount. An additional objective of AIMS is to provide a forum for doctoral students, the future leaders of our research, to discuss their research with a wider audience and receive training to help make their research careers successful.

Intelligent information processingg II ; IFIP TC12/WG12.3 International Conference on Intelligent Information Processing (IIP2004) October 21-23, 2004, Beijing, China

This book is based on IIP2004, which provides a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, university and industry to present their latest research findings in any aspect of intelligent information processing. Papers on intelligence science, intelligent agents, machine learning, and autonomic computing, as well as papers that highlight bioinformatics, e-commerce, and business intelligence were presented. IIP2004 meets the needs of a large and diverse community.

Formal Approaches to Agent-Based Systems ; 3rd International Workshop, FAABS 2004, Greenbelt, MD, April 26-27, 2004, Revised Selected Papers

The 3rd Workshop on Formal Approaches to Agent-Based Systems (FAABS-III) was held at the Greenbelt Marriott Hotel (near NASA Goddard Space Flight Center) in April 2004 in conjunction with the IEEE Computer Society. The first FAABS workshop was help in April 2000 and the second in October 2002. Interest in agent-based systems continues to grow and this is seen in the wide range of conferences and journals that are addressing the research in this area as well as the prototype and developmental systems that are coming into use. Our third workshop, FAABS-III, was held in April, 2004. This volume contains the revised papers and posters presented at that workshop. The Organizing Committee was fortunate in having significant support in the planning and organization of these events, and were privileged to have wor- renowned keynote speakers Prof. J Moore (FAABS-I), Prof. Sir Roger Penrose (FAABS-II), and Prof. John McCarthy (FAABS-III), who spoke on the topic of se- aware computing systems, auguring perhaps a greater interest in autonomic computing as part of future FAABS events. We are grateful to all who attended the workshop, presented papers or posters, and participated in panel sessions and both formal and informal discussions to make the workshop a great success. Our thanks go to the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Codes 588 and 581 (Software Engineering Laboratory) for their financial support and to the IEEE Computer Society (Technical Committee on Complexity in Computing) for their sponsorship and organizational assistance.

Contributions to Ubiquitous Computing

This book puts the larger vision of ubiquitous computing in the context of today’s mobile and distributed computing systems and presents innovative solutions at all system layers ranging from hardware over vertical and horizontal infrastructure services and novel middleware techniques to various types of application software. Some chapters address core properties of ubiquitous applications including mobility, self-healing and self-organisation of both technical and social-technical systems. Other contributions deal with common facilities like secure e-payment or semantic web techniques and business solutions like wireless asset management or e- maintenance. Distributed systems management with self-monitoring capabilities, Internet congestion control, and novel security solutions coping with denial of service attacks against mobile agent systems and software- and hardware-based data encryption methods are further topics addressed.
