Modellistica numerica per problemi differenziali = Numerical modeling for differential problems
This text introduces the basic concepts for the numerical modeling of partial differential problems. We consider the classic elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic linear equations, but also other equations, such as those of diffusion and transport, of Navier-Stokes, and the conservation laws, and we provide numerous physical examples underlying these equations. Then we analyze numerical resolution methods based on finite elements, finite differences, finite volumes, spectral methods and domain decomposition methods. In particular, the algorithmic and computer implementation aspects are discussed and various easy-to-use programs are provided.

Lopera presenta unanalisi completa delle applicazioni dei mezzi di contrasto ecografici a livello addominale. La parte introduttiva di natura tecnica presenta la classificazione generale e le proprietà fisiche dei mezzi di contrasto ecografici, nonché una dettagliata classificazione delle tecniche ecografiche contrasto-specifiche; segue una parte speciale che descrive le applicazioni delle microbolle a livello del fegato, della milza e del rene. Vengono quindi presentate le applicazioni speciali e innovative dei mezzi di contrasto ecografici nellambito dei traumi delladdome, della patologia del pancreas, della parete intestinale e dei vasi addominali, e della valutazione del reflusso vescico-ureterale. Infine, viene proposta unanalisi economica relativa allapplicazione dei mezzi di contrasto ecografici nella caratterizzazione delle lesioni focali epatiche. Il libro è principalmente rivolto ai medici impegnati nellattività ecografica quotidiana, particolarmente in ambito internistico, che desiderano ampliare le proprie competenze nel settore dellecografia con mezzo di contrasto

This text draws its origin from my old notes, prepared for the course of Mathematical Methods of Physics and gradually arranged, refined and updated over the course of many years of teaching. The aim has always been to provide as simple and direct a presentation as possible of the mathematical methods relevant to Physics: Fourier series, Hilbert spaces, linear operators, functions of complex variables, Fourier and Laplace transforms, distributions. In addition to these basic topics, a brief introduction to the first notions of group theory, Lie algebras and symmetries in view of their applications to Physics is presented in the Appendix.

Esercizi di fisica : Meccanica e termodinamica = Physics exercises : Mechanics and thermodynamics
La risoluzione di esercizi rappresenta uno strumento indispensabile per raggiungere una comprensione sicura e approfondita dei concetti di Fisica appresi dai corsi e dai testi di teoria. Frutto di una lunga esperienza didattica dei due autori nell'insegnamento universitario della meccanica e della termodinamica, questa raccolta contiene 188 esercizi, di cui 91 completamente risolti ed accompagnati da un ampio corredo di figure. Il peimo capitolo presenta un'introduzione ai sistemi di unità di misura, al calcolo dimensionale, all'uso corretto delle cifre significative e degli arrotondamenti, ai grafici. Gli altri capitoli contengono gli esercizi, suddivisi per argomento e preceduti da una serie di paragrafi riassuntivi dei concetti fondamentali. Criterio ispiratore di questo lavoro è l'adozione di una metodologia per la soluzione degli esercizi basata sempre sull'analisi accurata dei dati a disposizione e sul riferimento ai principi e alle leggi della Fisica, mai alla sola intuizione.

L'analisi statistica dei dati sperimentali, la loro elaborazione ed una corretta stima degli errori sono conoscenze necessarie agli studenti di fisica, biologia, chimica, ingegneria e dei corsi di specializzazione tecnico-scientifici in cui è richiesta pratica di laboratorio. Starting with exercises in functional analysis and approximation theory, the text develops problems related to the numerical resolution of elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic partial differential equations, scalar or vector, in one or more spatial dimensions. Pure diffusion and pure convection problems are therefore addressed, alongside diffusion-transport problems and problems in compressible and incompressible fluid dynamics. Particular emphasis is given to the finite element method for the spatial discretization of the problems considered, although exercises on the finite difference and finite volume methods are also included.
