Applications of Agent Technology in Traffic and Transportation
Building effective and user-friendly transportation systems is one of the big challenges for engineers in the 21st century. There is an increasing need to understand, model, and govern such systems at both the individual (micro) and the society (macro) level. Still, this raises significant technical problems, as transportation systems may contain thousands of autonomous, "intelligent" entities that need to be simulated and/or controlled. Therefore, traffic and transportation scenarios are extraordinarily appealing for Distributed Artificial Intelligence, and (multi-) agent technology in particular. This book gives an overview of recent advances in agent-based transportation systems. It includes both a state-of-the-art survey and reports on cutting-edge research in the field.

Volume 1 is divided into two sections: "Malignant Transformation and Metastasis" and "Molecular Basis of Disease Therapy." Volume 2 follows a similar structure and is divided into sections entitled "Kinases and Phosphate" and "Molecular Basis of Cell Death." All of the contributors are at the forefront of scientific discovery, and the reviews they present systemically examine the most exciting and innovative aspects of their particular areas of expertise. Researchers will find these volumes of major benefit as they search for novel and more effective treatments for human diseases.

Anti-vivisection and the profession of medicine in Britain : A social history
This book explores the social history of the anti-vivisection movement in Britain from its nineteenth-century beginnings until the 1960s. It discusses the ethical principles that inspired the movement and the socio-political background that explains its rise and fall. Opposition to vivisection began when medical practitioners complained it was contrary to the compassionate ethos of their profession. Christian anti-cruelty organizations took up the cause out of concern that callousness among the professional classes would have a demoralizing effect on the rest of society. As the nineteenth century drew to a close, the influence of transcendentalism, Eastern religions and the spiritual revival led new age social reformers to champion a more holistic approach to science, and dismiss reliance on vivisection as a materialistic oversimplification.
Antisense RNA Technology
The following project aims to introducing the technology of RNA Antisense as new therapy for many diseases. Antisense RNA: In molecular biology, the strand complementary to a coding sequence of a nucleic acid. Antisense DNA is the non-coding strand complementary to the coding strand in double-stranded DNA. The antisense strand serves as the template for messenger RNA (mRNA) synthesis. This synthesized nucleic acid is termed an "anti-sense" oligonucleotide (AON) because its base sequence is complementary to the gene's messenger RNA (mRNA), which is called the "sense" sequence (so that a sense segment of mRNA " 5'-AAGGUC-3' " would be blocked by the anti-sense mRNA segment " 3'-UUCCAG-5' ").
Antimicrobial Resistance and Implications for the Twenty-First Century
This new volume of the Emerging Infectious Diseases of the 21st Century series is a collection of chapters by leading world authorities on antimicrobial resistance of common, important bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens. This unique book should be in the possession of anyone interested in the field of infectious diseases, microbiology, infection control & public health. The chapters, which are written by reknown experts, provide a wealth of contemporary information on microbiology, molecular mechanisms, epidemiology, clinical relevance, treatment, and prevention
Anticoagulants
Anticoagulant are drugs that, when added to blood, prevents it from clotting. It does this by suppressing the synthesis or function of various clotting factors that are normally present in the blood. These drugs are frequently used to prevent the formation of blood clots (thrombi) in the veins or arteries or the enlargement of a clot that is circulating in the bloodstream. Anticoagulants are very effective in preventing life-threatening conditions...
Anti-bribery laws in common law jurisdictions
The legal regimes adopted and being implemented by parties to the OECD Convention flow from a common framework. Yet even when the anti-bribery legal regimes are virtually identical, the differences can still be significant in the context of a range of factors that are unique to each legal system.
Antibody-drug conjugates and cellular metabolic dynamics
Summarizes the related research achievements in Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and their cell metabolism kinetics. The book has three main parts. The first part describes the basic theory of ADCs, including the basic concept and structure of ADCs, and the relationship between the targets of ADCs and their specific functions. The second part mainly introduces the endocytosis and intracellular metabolism of ADCs, including the relationship between endocytosis and ADC activity, the endocytosis and intracellular transport of ADCs, the distribution and metabolism of ADC in vivo. Then it discusses the new formats and research technology of ADCs, including the application of miniaturized antibodies in ADC synthesis, novel carriers for ADC design, the technology and application of site-specific conjugation, and approaches for analyzing the drug: antibody ratio (DAR), the study of pharmacokinetics of ADCs.
Antibiotic Drug Resistance
This book presents a thorough and authoritative overview of the multifaceted field of antibiotic science – offering guidance to translate research into tools for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases.
Antennas & propagation for wireless communication systems ; 2nd ed.
Antennas and propagation are of fundamental importance to the coverage, capacity and quality of all wireless communication systems. This book provides a solid grounding in antennas and propagation, covering terrestrial and satellite radio systems in both mobile and fixed contexts. Building on the highly successful first edition, this fully updated text features significant new material and brand new exercises and supplementary materials to support course tutors. A vital source of information for practising and aspiring wireless communication engineers as well as for students at postgraduate and senior undergraduate levels, this book provides a fundamental grounding in the principles of antennas and propagation without excessive recourse to mathematics. It also equips the reader with practical prediction techniques for the design and analysis of a very wide range of common wireless communication systems.

Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence ; 5th International Workshop, ANTS 2006, Brussels, Belgium, September 4-7, 2006, Proceedings
ANTS – The International Workshop on Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence is now at its ?fth edition. The series started in 1998 with the - ganization of ANTS 1998. At that time the goal was to gather in a common meeting those researchers interested in ant colony optimization: more than 50 researchers from around the world joined for the ?rst time in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss ant colony optimization and swarm intelligence related research. A selectionofthebest paperspresentedatthe workshopwaspublished asa special issue of the Future Generation Computer Systems journal (Vol. 16, No. 8, 2000). Two years later, ANTS 2000, organized again in Brussels, attracted more than 70 participants. The 41 extended abstracts presented as talks or posters at the workshopwere collected in a booklet distributed to participants, and a selection of the best papers was published as a special section of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation (Vol. 6, No. 4, 2002).
