Cough : Pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment
This book provides an updated and comprehensive overview of cough, while opening new perspectives for their treatment and management. It enables readers to not only discover new physiologic features and mechanisms but also to gain an in-depth understanding of the diagnostic workup of cough, still one of the most frequent and challenging symptoms in daily medical practice. The book also provides insights into cough’s features and pathogenesis, as well as into pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments. The most frequent causes of chronic cough (asthma, postnasal drip, gastroesophageal reflux and chronic hypersensitivity syndrome) and different types of pediatric cough are also explored.

La sclerosi multipla (SM) rappresenta la seconda causa di disabilità neurologica nel giovane adulto, dopo i traumi cranici. Negli ultimi anni, l'introduzione di nuovi farmaci, potenzialmente in grado di modificare il decorso della malattia, ha richiamato l'attenzione sui costi sociali della SM e sugli aspetti farmaco-economici. Si sono avanzati, da un lato, timori che il costo dei nuovi farmaci costituisca un onere insostenibile per il sistema sanitario. Dall'altro lato, recenti studi economici hanno sottolineato l'importanza di una valutazione inserita in una prospettiva più ampia, considerando la possibilità che le nuove terapie possano ridurre i costi sociali di malattia nel lungo termine, ritardando o evitando lo sviluppo di invalidità. Control of Dead-time Processes
Control of Dead-time Processes introduces the fundamental techniques for controlling dead-time processes ranging from simple monovariable to complex multivariable cases. Solutions to dead-time-process-control problems are studied using classical proportional-integral-differential (PID) control for the simpler examples and dead-time-compensator (DTC) and model predictive control (MPC) methods for progressively more complex ones. Although MPC and DTC approaches originate in different areas of control, both use predictors to overcome the effects of dead time. Using this fact, the text analyses MPC as a dead-time-compensation strategy and shows how it can be used synergistically with robust DTC tuning methodologies.
