Analysis and Simulation of Fluid Dynamics
This volume collects the contributions of a Conference held in June 2005, at the laboratoire Paul Painlev́ e (UMR CNRS 8524) in Lille, France. The meeting was intended to review hot topics and future trends in ?uid dynamics.
Analysis and Simulation of Contact Problems
Contact mechanics was and is an important branch in mechanics which covers a broad field of theoretical, numerical and experimental investigations. Analgesia
Analgesics are among the oldest drugs described, albeit not necessarily for medicinaluse. An Introduction to the Theory of Piezoelectricity
This volume is intended to provide researchers and graduate students with the basic aspects of the continuum modeling of electroelastic interactions in solids. A concise treatment of linear, nonlinear, static and dynamic theories and problems is presented. The emphasis on formulation and understanding of problems useful in device applications rather than solution techniques of mathematical problems. The mathematics used in this book is minimal.
An introduction to relativistic processes and the standard model of electroweak interactions
The first part of the volume is devoted to the description of scattering processes in the context of relativistic quantum field theory. The use of the semi-classical approximation allows us to illustrate the relevant computation techniques in a reasonably small amount of space. Our approach to relativistic processes is original in many respects. The second part contains a detailed description of the construction of the standard model of electroweak interactions, with special attention to the mechanism of particle mass generation. The extension of the standard model to include neutrino masses is also described. We have included a number of detailed computations of cross sections and decay rates of pedagogical and phenomenological relevance.

Alzheimer : 100 Years and Beyond
Few medical or scientific addresses have so unmistakeably made history as the presentation delivered by Alois Alzheimer on November 4th, 1906 in Tübingen. The celebratory event, "Alzheimer 100 Years and Beyond" organized on the initiative of the Alzheimer community in Germany and worldwide, in collaboration with the Fondation Ipsen, at the very site of the original lecture, namely the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of Tübingen in Germany from November 2nd to 5th, 2006, was the highlight of the Alzheimer Year. Alternative pseudodifferential analysis : With an application to modular forms
This volume introduces an entirely new pseudodifferential analysis on the line, the opposition of which to the usual (Weyl-type) analysis can be said to reflect that, in representation theory, between the representations from the discrete and from the (full, non-unitary) series, or that between modular forms of the holomorphic and substitute for the usual Moyal-type brackets. This pseudodifferential analysis relies on the one-dimensional case of the recently introduced anaplectic representation and analysis, a competitor of the metaplectic representation and usual analysis.

Alkaliphiles : Genetic properties and applications of enzymes
The pioneering work of Dr. Koki Horikoshi on the discovery, research and applications of alkaliphilic bacteria are described here in their entirety. The isolation, distribution and taxonomy of alkaliphilic microorganisms as well as their cell structure and physiology are discussed for a basic understanding of these entities. The molecular biology and genome sequencing of some alkaliphilic bacterial strains are also presented. Part II of the volume focuses on enzymes of alkaliphiles and their applications.
