Subspace, Latent Structure and Feature Selection ; Statistical and Optimization Perspectives Workshop, SLSFS 2005 Bohinj, Slovenia, February 23-25, 2005, Revised Selected Papers
The inspiration for this volume was a workshop held under the auspices of thePASCAL Network of Excellence. The aimof this preface is to provide an overview of the contributions to this volume, placing this research in its wider context. The aim of the workshop was to bring together researchers working on sub-space and latent variable techniques in different research communities in orderto create bridges and enable cross-fertilization of ideas.
Subspace Methods for System Identification
the mathematical preliminaries are dealt with: numerical linear algebra; system theory; stochastic processes; and Kalman filtering. The second part explains realization theory, particularly that based on the decomposition of Hankel matrices, as it is applied to subspace identification methods. Two stochastic realization results are included, one based on spectral factorization and Riccati equations, the other on canonical correlation analysis (CCA) for stationary processes. Part III uses the development of stochastic realization results, in the presence of exogenous inputs, to demonstrate the closed-loop application of subspace identification methods CCA and ORT (based on orthogonal decomposition).
Subsidiarity and Economic Reform in Europe
Subsidiarity in the European Union, as the guiding principle of decision-making "close to the people", is often motivated and discussed from a predominantly political perspective. In this book, twenty-five renowned economic researchers and policy experts draw the demarcation between national and European policies from an economic viewpoint. Insights from economic theory and empirical research are used both to analyse the assignment of policies between the EU and its Member States and to identify appropriate levels of decision-making. Four key areas of the renewed Lisbon strategy are highlighted for their policy relevance: education and innovation, the internal market, corporate taxation, and regional and transport policy.

Subdivision Surfaces
Since their first appearance in 1974, subdivision algorithms for generating surfaces of arbitrary topology have gained widespread popularity in computer graphics and are being evaluated in engineering applications. This development was complemented by ongoing efforts to develop appropriate mathematical tools for a thorough analysis, and today, many of the fascinating properties of subdivision are well understood. This book summarizes the current knowledge on the subject. It contains both meanwhile classical results as well as brand-new, unpublished material, such as a new framework for constructing C^2-algorithms.
Style based video editor
The massive leaps of technology in entertainment have led to the need of hundreds of hours of work for multiple experts to deliver videos that meet their requirements while racing other experts doing the same thing to deliver the content to massive audiences in the fastest manner of time. This project also aims to aid video editors and directors to cut the time and energy needed to choose clips, review, label, cut, transcribe and re-composite a batch of videos to speed up the process of delivering high quality edited videos. This program can also help vloggers, youtubers, and anyone to edit videos based on a style they choose to convey their artistic talent and vision.
Sturm-Liouville Theory and its Applications
Undergraduate textbooks on Fourier series which follow a pointwise approach to convergence miss the rich geometric content which comes with treating the subject within the inner product space L2. This book, developed from a course taught to senior undergraduates, provides a unified introduction to Fourier analysis and special functions based on the Sturm-Liouville theory in L2. The basic results of this theory, namely the orthogonality and completeness of its eigenfunctions, are established in Chapter 2; the remaining chapters present examples and applications. The last two chapters, on Fourier and Laplace transformations, while not part of the Sturm-Liouville theory, extend the Fourier series method for representing functions to integral representations.
Sturm-Liouville Theory : Past and Present
This is a collection of survey articles based on lectures presented at a colloquium and workshop in Geneva in 2003 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles François Sturm. It aims at giving an overview of the development of Sturm-Liouville theory from its historical roots to present day research. It is the first time that such a comprehensive survey is made available in compact form. The contributions come from internationally renowned experts and cover a wide range of developments of the theory. The book can therefore serve both as an introduction to Sturm-Liouville theory and as background for ongoing research.

Studying the impact of diversity in the Syrian capital market on profitability and risks
The aim of the research and study is to measure the investment climate in the Damascus Stock Exchange, and is this climate attractive to investments and are we able to build an investment portfolio with acceptable returns and low risks, or was the investment climate able to make the Damascus Stock Exchange a safe haven instead of money fleeing outside Syria and transferring it to foreign currency, This was the purpose of the research.
Studying Human Populations : An Advanced Course in Statistics
Studying Human Populations is a textbook for graduate students and research workers in social statistics and related subject areas. It follows a novel curriculum developed around the basic statistical activities of sampling, measurement and inference. Statistics is defined broadly as making decisions in the presence of uncertainty that arises as a consequence of limited resources available for collecting information. A connecting link of the presented methods is the perspective of missing information, catering for a diverse class of problems that include nonresponse, imperfect measurement and causal inference. In principle, any problem too complex for our limited analytical toolkit could be converted to a tractable problem if some additional information were available. Ingenuity is called for in declaring such (missing) information constructively, but the universe of problems that we can address is wide open, not limited by a discrete set of procedures.
Study on some drugs used in the treatment of epilepsy
Chronic disease are a major health problem and cause of death worldwide. And one of these disease is epilepsy. Epilepsy is a central nervous system (neurological ) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal , causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensation and sometimes loss of awareness. Are effected by Epilepsy. In this study , we will mention the most important Epilepsy drug ( carbamazepine, lamotrigine, valproic acid). We will mention other factors that help besides medication.
Study of establishment of clinical research center in Syria
Drug products need to conform to the same standards of quality, efficacy and safety required of the originator's product. In addition, reasonable assurance must be provided that they are, as intended, clinically interchangeable with nominally equivalent market products. Most of the new pharmaceutical products that appear in the Syrian drug market are not of the original Source " BRAND ". Such medicines carry a different brand name than the original and named it" GENERIC ".We are talking about drugs in most cases where some active pharmaceutical ingredients are not protected by the invention, and its medical characteristics differ only slightly from the original drugs but the prices are cheaper. These drugs must have the same quality as the original medicines" BRAND" and contain all the characteristics of efficacy and safety.
Studies on Locke : Sources, Contemporaries, and Legacy In Honour of G.A.J. Rogers
This collection of new essays on John Locke by a constellation of leading Locke scholars focuses on his philosophy, biography, sources and influence. The topics discussed here include his theory of ideas, his debt to Stoicism, his relations the Dry Club and with his translator, Pierre Coste, and the hitherto overlooked critique by Thomas Beconsall. A major emphasis of the collection is the relationship between Locke and seventeenth-century philosophers, Descartes, Hobbes, Cudworth, Bayle, Malebranche and Leibniz. The coverage of Locke’s legacy extends to into the eighteenth-century legacy as far as Rousseau and Kant
Studies on Continuing Vocational Training in Germany : An Empirical Assessment
Offers a comprehensive empirical analysis of continuing vocational training in Germany. Specific issues concerning continuing training that are debated in academia as well as in public are discussed. Wage and productivity effects of training are analysed, explicitly accounting for the heterogeneity of training participants. Additionally, different types of training that vary in the degree of firm specificity are considered. Wage and productivity effects of training are compared to examine how the training rent is shared between employer and employee. Finally, evidence is given on whether positive externalities of continuing training exist.
Studies of Cave Sediments : Physical and Chemical Records of Paleoclimate
Caves serve as unique repositories for geologic, biologic, and anthropologic information. The sediments within these natural cavities are incredibly diverse. They include secondary minerals such as calcite and gypsum, which occur in sundry forms, as well as allogenic and autogenic clasts. This book is for any geoscience researcher or student with interests in climate change, paleohydrology, karst geology, and sedimentology. Studies of Cave Sediments is the first comprehensive volume on cave sediments. It provides case-studies from around the world, gives guidance on appropriate applications of techniques, and their limitations, synthesizes methods that can be used to decipher complex deposits, and includes chemical deposits (speleothems) as well as clastic sediments.

Structures and Dynamics of Autopoietic Organizations : Theory and Simulation
Knowledge, learning, and memory are major concepts in management science and organization theory. First and foremost, they are attributed to individuals rather than organizations. Steffen Blaschke reconsiders the three major concepts in the light of social systems theory. He complements autopoietic organization theory with a clear-cut distinction between individual and organizational knowledge, learning, and memory. Following suit of agent-based modelling, he provides an operationalization of autopoietic organization theory in terms of computational simulation. The author subjects organizational structures and dynamics to a range of simulation scenarios, thereby questioning the effects of work groups and communities of practice as well as personnel turnover and layoff on knowledge, learning, and memory.
