A further important component of machine intelligence is a kind of “structural uniformity” giving room and possibility to model arbitrary particular details a priori not specified and unknown.This idea is similar to the ready-to-wear industry, which introduced products, which can be slightly modified later on in contrast to tailor-made creations aiming at maximum accuracy from the beginning. These subsequent corrections can be carried out by machines automatically. This “learning ability” is a key element of machine intelligence.The past decade confirmed that the view of typical components of the present soft computing as fuzzy logic, neural computing.
Intelligent Algorithms in Ambient and Biomedical Computing
The rapid growth in electronic systems in the past decade has boosted research in the area of computational intelligence. As it has become increasingly easy to generate, collect, transport, process, and store huge amounts of data, the role of intelligent algorithms has become prominent in order to visualize, manipulate, retrieve, and interpret the data. For instance, intelligent search techniques have been developed to search for relevant items in huge collections of web pages, and data mining and interpretation techniques play a very important role in making sense out of huge amounts of biomolecular measurements. As a result, the added value of many modern systems is no longer determined by hardware only, but increasingly by the intelligent software that supports and facilitates the user in realizing his or her objectives.

Intelligence and security informatics (ISI) can be broadly defined as the study of the development and use of advanced information technologies and systems for national and international security-related applications, through an integrated technological, organizational, and policy-based approach. In the past few years, ISI research has experienced tremendous growth and attracted substantial interest from academic researchers in related fields as well as practitioners from both government agencies and industry. The first two meetings (ISI 2003 and ISI 2004) in the ISI symposium and conference series were held in Tucson, Arizona, in 2003 and 2004, respectively. They provided a stimulating intellectual forum for discussion among previously disparate communities: academic researchers in information technologies, computer science, public policy, and social studies; local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence experts; and information technology industry consultants and practitioners.

In wastewater management, new challenges are caused by new chemicals of concern, including endocrine disrupters, pharmaceuticals, hormones, and personal care products, which often pass through wastewater treatment plants unabated, but may cause serious impacts on receiving aquatic ecosystems. ISC 2005 brought together individuals from academia and - dustry involvedin manyresearchdisciplines of information security to foster the exchange of ideas. During recent years this conference has tried to place special emphasis on the practical aspects of information security, and since it passed from being an international workshop to being an international conference in 2001, it has become one of the most relevant forums at which researchers meet and discuss emerging security challenges and solutions. Advised by the ISC Steering Committee, and in order to provide students with more opportunities for publication, ISC 2005 accepted extra student papers - sides the regular papers. The initiative was very well accepted by the young sector of the scienti?c community, and we hope that the success of this idea will remainfornextISCevents. Another important factor for the success of ISC2005 was that selected papers in the proceedings will be invited for submission to a special issue of the International Journal of Information Security. The result was an incredible response to the call for papers; we received 271 submissions, the highest since ISC events started. It goes without saying that the paper selection process was more competitive and di?cult than ever before — only 33 regular papers were accepted, plus 5 student papers for a special student session.
