Bill Ricker : An appreciation
This book is the first complete biography of one of the founders of fishery science, William Edwin (Bill) Ricker (1908 - 2001). Bill is immortalized in the Ricker Curve. He developed the Curve in his studies of stock and recruitment in fisheries, but it has been widely applied in many areas of science. Bill is best known for his contributions to fishery science, but he was also internationally recognized as an entomologist and a scientific editor. This book combines Bill’s own recollections with contributions from those who knew him and worked with him as a colleague during his multifaceted career. In an article written shortly before his death, Bill gives his own account of his career and intellectual development.
Bigel : An innovative drug delivery system
Bigel is a promising drug delivery system that modifies the pharmacotherapeutic characteristics of knowing active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).It is a mix between hydrogel and organogel (oleogel). The objective of the present work demonstrates the ability of bigel to overcome the disadvan- tages of both types of gels, including the limited ability to cross lipophilic barriers of the skin for hydrogels and the low patient compliance for organogels due to their stickiness and oily residues. Materials andmethods : Carbomer934, PolyvinylpyrrolidoneK 90 and Castor oil where mixed in a high shear mixer using diferent weight percentages of each. Hence,13 for mulations (BG1 to BG13) prepared by simplex mixture design modelis used to study the inuenceofafore- mentioned ingredients on appearance, dynamicviscosity, pH, stability, microscopicstructure of bigel and to understand the chemical interactions between bigel components, Fouriertrans- form infrared (FTIR) analysis will bereported.

Beyond Kyoto : A new global climate certificate system : Continuing Kyoto commitsments or a global ´Cap and Trade´ scheme for a sustainable climate policy?
This book shows how humankind can ‘prevent dangerous interference with the c- mate system’ without dangerous interference with the global economic system. In the two underlying studies on behalf of the Ministry of Environment and Transport of i the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg, the results have been elaborated through scientific evaluation of different climate protection systems and intensive developmental work on an efficient climate protection system. The results will be presented in nine chapters according to the following nine basic R&D steps: 1. Quantifying the ‘ultimate climate objective’ of the world community in order ‘to prevent dangerous interference with the climate system,’ thus achieving climate sustainability; 2. Development of a comprehensive standard system for evaluating the prospect of success for different climate protection systems; 3. Based on this scientific standard system, evaluation of the current Kyoto system and of the most important proposals for ‘incremental regime evolution’ of the Kyoto system. Unfortunately, it must be noted that these systems are incapable of achi- ing climate sustainability; 4. Evaluating three proposals for ‘structural regime change’ of the Kyoto system. Beyond Cartesian Dualism : Encountering affect in the teaching and learning of science.
There is surprisingly little known about affect in science education. Despite periodic forays into monitoring students’ attitudes-toward-science, the effect of affect is too often overlooked. Best diagnostic tools and supportive medication for cancer patients
Cancer is still a lethal disease despite the development of new effective therapies; therefore the purpose of our study was to improve the patient's outcome by looking for the best diagnostic tools, secondly to improve radiotherapy resistance since about 50% of all cancer patients are treated with it. The fir st par t of our study will be per formed in Alkhatib center and the selection of that hospital was upon its highly sensitive diagnostic tools, in which PET/ CT scan was playing a major role to improve survival as shown in few repor ts in our study, and it’s the only safe diagnostic tool for a per son who has a metal fragments after injury in the war which increased the number of such patients in our country dur ing the last decade. This diagnostic tool is based on FDGin which we can define the tumor by using sugar more than normal tissue.
Behavioral medicinal therapy for ADHD & transdermal patches
ADHD is a popular disorder, often diagnosed in children in young ages. we aimed our study to focus on this disorder since it has a great impact on education and academic achievement. Although its widespread recently more than last twenty years, but in our survey we noticed that the reported cases in Syrian ministry of education is much lower than we observed in our practical clinical study. We will present the history, symptoms, risk factor, prognosis and therapy of this disorder with comparative study between two forms of treatment.
