Among the highlights of this book are the use of nanotechnology to increase potency of available insecticides, the use of genetic engineering techniques for controlling insect pests, the development of novel insecticides that bind to unique biochemical receptors, the exploration of natural products as a source for environmentally acceptable insecticides, and the use of insect genomics and cell lines for determining biological and biochemical modes of action of new insecticides.
Inorganic Reactions in Water
Organized to facilitate reference to the reagents involved, this book describes the reactions of the elements and their mostly simpler compounds, primarily inorganic ones and primarily in water. It emphasizes the similarities and differences in actual chemical behavior, as opposed to electronic structures and theories, although not exclusively.Inorganic Reactions in Water again makes available some of the more comprehensive coverage of descriptive aqueous chemistry found in older sources, but now corrected and interpreted with the added insights of the last seven decades. It also provides new information, including reactions of the recently discovered elements.
Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers
This book has its origins in courses taught by the author to various und- graduate and graduate students at the Indian Institute of Technology, K- pur, India. The diversity of inorganic chemistry and its impact on polymer chemistry has been profound. This subject matter has grown considerably in the last decade and the need to present it in a coherent manner to young minds is a pedagogic challenge. The aim of this book is to present to the students an introduction to the developments in Inorganic and - ganometallic polymers. This book is divided into eight chapters. Chapter 1 provides a general overview on the challenges of Inorganic polymer synthesis. This is f- lowed by a survey of organic polymers and also includes some basic f- tures of polymers. Chapters 3-8 deal with prominent families of inorganic and organometallic polymers. Although the target group of this book is the undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science it is also hoped that chemists and related scientists in industry would find this book useful.
Innovative Superhard Materials and Sustainable Coatings for Advanced Manufacturing ; Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Innovative Superhard Materials and Sustainable Coating, Kiev, Ukraine,12 - 15 May 2004.
Modern industry imposes ever increasing requirements upon tools and tool materials as to the provision for performance under the conditions of high cutting speeds and dynamic loads as well as under intensive thermal and chemical interactions with workpiece materials. The industry demands a higher productivity in combination with the accuracy of geometry and dimensions of workpieces and quality of working surfaces of the machined pieces. These requirements are best met by the tool superhard materials (diamond and diamond-like cubic boron nitride). Ceramics based on silicon carbide, aluminum and boron oxides as well as on titanium, silicon and aluminum nitrides offer promise as tool materials. Tungsten-containing cemented carbides are still considered as suitable tool materials. Hi- hardness and high strength composites based on the above materials fit all the requirements imposed by machining jobs when manufacturing elements of machinery, in particular those operating under the extreme conditions of high temperatures and loads.
Inflammation and cancer : Methods and protocols

Infectious disease : A very short introduction
Provides a conceptual framework for thinking about disease. Ecology and evolution provide the keys to answering the ‘where’ / ‘why’ / ‘how’ / and ‘what’ questions about any particular infectious disease: where did it come from? How is it transmitted from one person to another / and why are some individuals more susceptible than others? What biochemical / ecological / and evolutionary strategies can be used to combat the disease? Is it more effective to block transmission at the population level / or to block infection at the individual level? Through a series of case studies / Benjamin Bolker and Marta L. Wayne introduce the major ideas of infectious disease in a clear and thoughtful way / emphasizing the general principles of infection / the management of outbreaks / and the evolutionary and ecological approaches that are now central to much research about infectious disease.
Industrial hygiene in the pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare industries
Use of containment in the pharmaceutical industry and consumer healthcare. It serves to highlight how industrial hygiene acts as a driving force within these industries to reduce the risk of exposure to chemical and physical agents, particularly to powders and dusts, while taking all factors into account. The author emphasizes how this book is not designed to replace other texts on containment; rather, it will serve to show a practical approach of utilizing the technologies within the high-demand industries of pharmaceuticals and consumer healthcare.
Induced Plant Resistance to Herbivory
This book provides a thorough overview of the anatomical, chemical, and developmental features contributing to plant defense, with particular emphasis on plant responses that are induced by wounding or herbivore attack. Written by leading experts.
Indicator Systems for Sustainable Innovation
In the recent past, environmental innovations have led to a considerable reduction of many pollutants; however, further innovation is required to tackle remaining pollution sources. This work analyses the significance and the effects of framework conditions on innovation activities that contribute to the realisation of a sustainable development. The book links the experiences of different research projects with the aim to develop a system of indicators to evaluate sustainable effects of (environmental) innovations. A comprehensive framework for an indicator system is established that allows to include different environmental innovation fields such as process innovations in the steel production, substitution of dangerous chemicals, organisational innovations in the field of waste disposal or sustainable water management.

The papers cover various structural geologic, geochemical, and geophysical topics on research of asteroid impact structures on Earth and Mars.
Immobilisation of DNA on Chips I
the main focus of these two volumes is on the immobilization chemistry, considering the various aspects of the immobilization process itself, since different types of nucleic acids, support materials, surface activation chemistries and patterning tools are of key concern.the focus of the major part of the chapters lies on the coupling chemistry used for DNA immobilization. Successful immobilization techniques for DNA appear to either involve a multi-site attachment of DNA (preferentially by electrochemical and/or physical adsorption) or a single-point attachment of DNA (mainly by surface activation and covalent immobilization or (strept)avidin-biotin linkage).

Hydroboration and Organic Synthesis : 9-Borabicyclo [3.3.1] nonane (9-BBN)
Borabicyclo [3.3.1]nonane, a commercially available reagent, is the most versatile hydroborating reagent to synthesize organoboranes (B-R-9-BBN). The reagent exhibits remarkable regio-, chemo-, and stereoselectivity during hydroboration reactions. The organoboranes can be converted to C-H, C-O, C-N, C-S, C-halogen, C-metal and above all C-C bonds. In addition, the suitable substituted / unsaturated R of B-R-9-BBN can be utilized to produce dienes, enynes, allenes etc. with defined stereochemistry. 9-BBN’s derivatives have been elegantly used for the asymmetric reduction of ketone moiety. Diels-Alder and Suzuki reactions have expanded the utility of 9-BBN for the synthesis of a variety of organic compounds required for industry. Consequently, this vast field in the form of a book will be helpful to synthetic organic chemists for easy access to literature, required for chemical transformations.
