Collaborative efforts by a team of about 100 scientists and engineers have yielded knowledge entirely transferable to other high latitude regions in America, Europe and Asia. Emphases are placed on the investigation of processes (including storm genesis, precipitation, moisture and energy fluxes and frost), and the improvement and application of a suite of models and remote sensing to enhance the assessment of climate variability and water resources.
Cold Region Atmospheric and Hydrologic Studies : The Mackenzie GEWEX Experience ; Vol.1 : Atmospheric Dynamics
This book presents decade-long advances in atmospheric research in the Mackenzie River Basin in northern Canada, which encompasses environments representative of the coldest areas on Earth.
Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP)
Plasma medicine is an innovative research field combining plasma physics, life science, and clinical medicine. It is mainly focused on the application cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in therapeutic settings. Based on its ability to inactivate microorganisms but also to stimulate tissue regeneration, current medical applications are focused on the treatment of wounds and skin diseases. Since CAP is also able to inactivate cancer cells, its use in cancer therapy is expected to be the next field of clinical plasma application. Other promising applications are expected in oral medicine and ophthalmology
Cognitive Behavioral Treatment of Insomnia : A Session-by-Session Guide
Cognitive behavior therapy which has been adapted to treat so many problems, has also brought data-driven and data-yielding treatment to insomnia. Focusing on this evidence-based modality, Cognitive Behavioral Treatment of Insomnia is a much-needed treatment manual that provides clinicians with the why’s and how’s of this approach in concise and practical terms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Illness and Disability
Severe pain, debilitating fatigue, sleep disruption, severe gastrointestinal distress – these hallmarks of chronic illness complicate treatment as surely as they disrupt patients’ lives, in no small part because of the overlap between biological pathology and resulting psychological distress. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Illness and Disability cuts across formal diagnostic categories to apply proven therapeutic techniques to potentially devastating conditions, from first assessment to end of treatment. Four extended clinical case examples of patients with chronic fatigue, rheumatoid arthritis, inoperable cancer, and Crohn’s disease are used throughout the book to demonstrate how cognitive-behavioral interventions can be used to effectively address ongoing medical stressors and their attendant depression, anxiety, and quality-of-life concerns. At the same time, they highlight specific patient and therapist challenges commonly associated with chronic conditions.
CO-ENZYME Q10
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble compound that is synthesized by the body and can be obtained from the diet. Co-Q10 plays a central role in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). It also functions as an antioxidant in cell membranes and lipoproteins. Endogenous synthesis and dietary intake provide sufficient C0- Q10 to prevent deficiency in healthy people, although coenzyme Q10 concentrations in tissues decline with age. Oral supplementation of coenzyme Q10 increases coenzyme Q10 concentrations in plasma and lipoproteins. Oral high-dose co- Q10 is usually effective to treat mitochondrial disorders that are caused by mutations in coenzyme Q10 biosynthetic genes.
Coaching : Evoking Excellence in Others
Includes two brand new chapters: the first is on finding one’s inner guidance and purpose in traversing the world of work, especially in more uncertain working environments; and the second is on the topic of somatic intelligence. As in earlier editions, this foundational book in coaching clearly presents the theories, concepts, and models, and then moves on to consider rigorous methods of practice and self-observation in a relationship of mutual trust, respect, and freedom of expression. It will probe you to rethink how you relate to your clients and your staff, how you produce long-term excellent performance in yourself, and how you can become more effective in helping others to achieve their goals.
Cloud-Resolving Modeling of Convective Processes
Introduces the framework of cloud-resolving model, methodologies for analysis of modeling outputs, and validation of simulations with observations. The book details important scientific findings in the aspects of surface rainfall processes, precipitation efficiency, dynamic and thermodynamic processes associated with tropical convection, diurnal variations, radiative and cloud microphysical processes associated with development of cloud clusters, air-sea coupling on convective scales, climate equilibrium states, and remote sensing applications.
Cloud Optics
Clouds affect the climate of the Earth, and they are an important factor in the weather. Therefore, their radiative properties must be understood in great detail. This book summarizes current knowledge on cloud optical properties, for example their ability to absorb, transmit, and reflect light, which depends on the clouds’ geometrical and microphysical characteristics such as sizes of droplets and crystals, their shapes, and structures. In addition, problems related to the image transfer through clouds and cloud remote sensing are addressed in this book in great detail. This book can be an important source of information on theoretical cloud optics for cloud physicists, meteorologists and optical engineers.
Clinicopathological Correlation of Oral Diseases
