Passione per Trill : Alcune idee dalla matematica = Passion for Tinker Bell: Some ideas from mathematics
It is a general belief that mathematics is a difficult subject to understand, that uses esoteric symbols and an incomprehensible language, which is above all calculus. Certainly, it is a particular subject, which needs formulas and which requires a sometimes very sophisticated formal language. However, it is also a science full of ideas, which do not only have the function of advancing some theory or serving other sciences for their quantitative models. Like philosophy, like literature, mathematics is useful for man to try to understand a little better the world around him, and above all himself. Deeply convinced of this, the author proposes some arguments, which are particularly suitable for highlighting this aspect of mathematics. The author sometimes uses a more mathematical language to complete the reasoning, but he is completely convinced that the interested reader can follow all his reasonings because, paraphrasing a great mathematician of the last century, "those who are not familiar with the techniques mathematicians will realize that they can get away with it without problems by completely ignoring them "
Parts Management Models and Applications : A Supply Chain System Integration Perspective
Parts are commonly used in making, repairing or maintaining consumer or industry products. Parts could be purchased or manufactured by a business enterprise. Advance models were applied to parts operations for manufacturers of transport refrigeration equipment and high-pressure positive displacement plunger pumps.
Parting the Cosmic Veil
Astronomers have used telescopes, operating at the visible wavelengths that we see with our eye, to reveal the true extent of the Milky Way and discover billions of remote galaxies that are rushing away from us in an expanding Universe. Each of these galaxies contains billions of stars wheeling around their massive central hub.Radio waves and X-rays, which lie beyond the range of visual perception, are used to detect a violent Universe, from exploding stars to gamma ray bursts and the Big Bang itself, with the associated discoveries of pulsars, black holes and quasars. Radio astronomers have also shown that the dark spaces between the stars contain vast tracts of cold hydrogen atoms and a host of molecules.
Partial Order in Environmental Sciences and Chemistry
Partial Order? - Never heard of it! This comment will be heard no more, when the broadness of this mathematical concept has been explained. Many internationally renowned authors assist the reader in understanding what partial order is and where, why and how this concept can be used. Since all the authors have teaching experience, partial order is explained step by step. Mathematical formalism is avoided as far as ever possible. The book begins with some basics, considers applications in different fields and ends with some historical notes.
Partial Differential Equations in Action : From Modelling to Theory
This book is designed as an advanced undergraduate or a first-year graduate course for students from various disciplines like applied mathematics, physics, engineering. The main purpose is on the one hand to train the students to appreciate the interplay between theory and modelling in problems arising in the applied sciences; on the other hand to give them a solid theoretical background for numerical methods, such as finite elements. Accordingly, this textbook is divided into two parts. The first one has a rather elementary character with the goal of developing and studying basic problems from the macro-areas of diffusion, propagation and transport, waves and vibrations. Ideas and connections with concrete aspects are emphasized whenever possible, in order to provide intuition and feeling for the subject. For this part, a knowledge of advanced calculus and ordinary differential equations is required.

Parallel Imports of Pharmaceuticals : Evidence from Scandinavia and Policy Proposals for Switzerland
Parallel trade occurs if international price differences for identical products are high and a policy of regional or international exhaustion of the respective property right has been implemented in the high price country. The work by C. Poget analyses how parallel imports of pharmaceuticals are affecting end consumer prices and drug expenditures in three Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Based on his observations he derives proposals for policy reforms in EU member countries and Switzerland.
Parallel and Distributed Computing : Applications and Technologies ; 5th International Conference, PDCAT 2004, Singapore, December 8-10, 2004, Proceedings
The technical program was comprehensive and featured keynote speeches, te- nical paper presentations, and exhibitions showcased by industry vendors. The technical program committee was overwhelmed with submissions of papers for presentation, from countries worldwide. We received 242 papers and after - viewing them, based on stringent selection criteria, we accepted 173 papers. The papers in the proceedings focus on parallel and distributed computing viewed from the three perspectives of networking and architectures, software systems and technologies, and algorithms and applications. We acknowledge the great contribution from all of our local and international committee members and - per reviewers who devoted their time in the review process and provided valuable feedback for the authors. PDCAT 2004 could never have been successful without the support and ass- tance of several institutions and many people.
Pancreatic Cancer
Since the first M. D. Anderson Solid Tumor Oncology Series volume on pancreatic cancer, there have been major advances in our understanding of molecular events which underlie pancreatic cancer development, both in the sporadic and inherited forms. We have seen the development of the first mouse models that accurately recapitulate features of the human disease. Several landmark clinical trials in both resectable and metastatic pancreatic cancer have been completed, raising new questions about the standard of care in this disease. Finally, the era of targeted biologic therapies has engendered new excitement about the prospects of more rapid progress in understanding and successfully treating this dreadful disease. Therefore, it is an appropriate time to review these important advances and outline areas of controversy and question in pancreatic cancer biology and treatment.

Painless Project Management with FogBugz
Project management is the bane of the team approach to programming. Many programs out there purport to help a development team manage a project; the only trouble is, most of them aren't very good. World-renowned software guru Joel Spolsky's company, Fog Creek Software, has created a tool called FogBugz that incorporates all of Joel's insight into what works and what doesn't work in project management. FogBugz is based on keeping track of a database of cases. At any given time, every case is assigned to one person who must resolve it or forward it to someone else. Cases can be prioritized, documented, sorted, discussed, edited, assigned, estimated, searched, and tracked. Because FogBugz is web-based, everyone on the team always sees the whole picture. Everything from customer feature requests to high-level design discussions to tiny bug fix details is instantly searchable and trackable.

Business freedoms and fundamental rights in European Union law
The recognition of the freedom to conduct a business as a fundamental right within European Union law has reignited debate as to the proper place of competing economic freedoms and fundamental social rights within the European Union legal order. In particular, the Court of Justice of the European Union has relied on freedom of contract as a component of the freedom to conduct a business in order to undermine the protection of competing employment rights.
Over The Counter Drug
Over-the-counter (OTC) medicines are drugs you can buy without a prescription. Some OTC medicines relieve aches, pains, and itches. Some prevent or cure diseases, like tooth decay and athlete's foot. Others help manage recurring problems, like migraines and allergies. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration decides whether a medicine is safe and effective enough to sell over the counter. This allows you to take a OTC drugs enable people to relieve many annoying symptoms and to cure some diseases simply and without the cost of seeing a doctor. However, safe use of these drugs requires knowledge, common sense, and responsibility. In addition to the substances such as aspirin and acetaminophen that people typically think of as OTC drugs, many other commonly available products are considered OTC drugs by the federal Food and Drug Administration .
