This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Computational Linguistics and Intelligent Text Processing, CICLing 2005, held in Mexico City, Mexico in February 2005. An approach that involves natural language analysis techniques for the treatment of software system functional requirements is described in this book. This approach is used as the basis for a process developed to generate sequence diagrams automatically from the textual specification of use cases. This facility has been integrated in the Requirements Engineering Phase of OO-Method, an automatic production environment of software. For this purpose, a translator that is based on natural language parser is used. The translator provides grammatical information to each use case sentence and it identifies the corresponding interaction. The automatic transformation is conceived and specified following an orientation that is based on models and patterns. The results of the validation of the transformation patterns are presented.

Computational Cognitive Modeling and Linguistic Theory

Cohesion, coherence and temporal reference from an experimental corpus pragmatics perspective
Provides new methodological and theoretical insights into temporal reference and its linguistic expression, from a cross-linguistic experimental corpus pragmatics approach. Verbal tenses, in general, and more specifically the categories of tense, grammatical and lexical aspect are treated as cohesion ties contributing to the temporal coherence of a discourse, as well as to the cognitive temporal coherence of the mental representations built in the language comprehension process. Cognitive Aspects of Bilingualism

Logic, Thought and Action
Contribute to our understanding of this dynamic process by clearly presenting and discussing the most important hypotheses, issues and theories in philosophical and logical study of language, thought and action. LMI Approach to Analysis and Control of Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Systems with Time Delay
A fuzzy system is, in a very broad sense, any fuzzy logic-based system where fuzzy logic can be used either asthebasisfor the representation of different forms of system knowledge or the model for the interactions and relationships among the system variables. Fuzzy systems have proven to be an important tool for modeling complex systems for which, due to complexity or imprecision, classical tools are unsuccessful. There have been diverse fields of applications of fuzzy technology from medicine to management, from engineering to behavioral science, from vehicle control to computational linguistics, and so on. Fuzzy modeling is a conjunction to understand the s- tem’s behavior and build useful mathematical models. Different types of fuzzy models have been proposed in the literature, among which the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is a rule-based one suitable for the accurate approximation and identi?cation of a wide class of nonlinear systems.
Linguistics for the age of AI
One of the original goals of artificial intelligence research was to endow intelligent agents with human-level natural language capabilities. Recent AI research, however, has focused on applying statistical and machine learning approaches to big data rather than attempting to model what people do and how they do it. In this book, Marjorie McShane and Sergei Nirenburg return to the original goal of recreating human-level intelligence in a machine. They present a human-inspired, linguistically sophisticated model of language understanding for intelligent agent systems that emphasizes meaning—the deep, context-sensitive meaning that a person derives from spoken or written language.
