The intersection of probability and physics has been a rich and explosive area of growth in the past three decades, specifically covering such subjects as percolation theory, random walks in random environment, disordered systems, interacting particle systems and their many connections to statistical mechanics. The last decade was particularly fruitful for all these topics. This book reflects this development and marks also the first decade of the Brazilian School of Probability. This volume consists of a collection of invited articles, written by some of the most distinguished probabilists, most of whom have been personally responsible for advances in the various subfields of probability.
Impulse Breakdown of Liquids
The book describes the main physical processes and phenomena in pulsed electric breakdown. The knowledge and the control of the electric breakdown of liquids is important not only for the insulation inside power systems but it is also used for the creation and information of high voltage and high current pulses. Such high-voltage micro- and nanosecond pulses find wide application in experimental physics, electro discharge technology, physics of dielectrics, radar detection and ranging, high-speed photography. The nature of charge carriers, mechanism of formation and evolution of the gas phase, and their role in charge ignition (initiation) and development are considered. In particular, the spatiotemporal laws of propagation and parameters of charge channels are described in detail and the boundery conditions of the breakdown initiation are formulated.
Improving Psychiatric Care for Older People : Barbara Robb’s Campaign 1965-1975
This book tells the story of Barbara Robb and her pressure group, Aid for the Elderly in Government Institutions (AEGIS). In 1965, Barbara visited 73-year-old Amy Gibbs in a dilapidated and overcrowded National Health Service psychiatric hospital back-ward. She was so appalled by the low standards that she set out to make improvements. Barbara’s book Sans Everything: A case to answer was publicly discredited by a complacent and self-righteous Ministry of Health. However, inspired by her work, staff in other hospitals ‘whistle-blew’ about events they witnessed, which corroborated her allegations. Barbara influenced government policy, to improve psychiatric care and health service complaints procedures, and to establish a hospitals' inspectorate and ombudsman.

Impact of Corporate Governance on Earnings Management
This research was aimed to study the impact of corporate governance on earnings management, and to explain the relationship between both of these variables. To achieve that goal the research depended on practical study; by extracting an actual data from the 8 conventional banks listed in DSE. the extracted data were then analyzed by using descriptive statistics, simple and multiple linear regression test and ANOVA test to examine the research hypothesis. The results showed that there is a governance impact on earnings management, and defined the relationship between audit committee and earnings management as negative relationship. and also, a negative relationship between top share and earnings management. And finally, we found no impact of CEO duality on earnings management.
