Given the many articles, books, and conferences that have focused on the issue of public education reform, it is reasonable to ask whether the world needs still another volume on this subject. In my defense, I would argue that, although there is a large literature on public education reform, there is precious little that tries to sketch the big picture. Too often, both in research and in practice, it is easy to lose sight of the forest, for all the focus on the individual trees. While such detailed analysis is of critical value, that value derives both from its specificity and from its ability to fit into a larger, coherent whole.

Actin Monomer Binding Proteins
The actin cytoskeleton plays a central role in many cellular processes including cell motility, cytokinesis, endocytosis and phagocytosis. The structure and dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton is regulated by a large number of proteins that interact with monomeric and/or filamentous actin. Actin monomer binding proteins provides a comprehensive view on actin monomer-binding proteins and the mechanisms by which they contribute to actin dynamics and various actin-dependent cellular processes. Abuse of Dominant Position : New Interpretation, New Enforcement Mechanisms?
As part of its review of competition law that started in the late 1990s, the European Commission proposes to revise its interpretation and application of the Treaty’s prohibition of abuses of dominant positions. Also, it has instigated a debate about the promotion of private enforcement of EC competition law. The chapters in this volume critically appraise the Commission’s proposals, including the most recent ones. The authors also highlight the repercussions of the proposed ‘more economic approach’ to abuses of dominant positions on private litigants’ opportunities to bring damages actions in national courts for such abuses.
A vision-based system to early detection of drowning incidents in swimming pools
Being one of the leading causes of death; drowning has become a severe problem in the past few years. Our goal from this project is to focus on the comprehensive survey of drowning detection and prevention techniques. There are various methodologies put up in the domain of swimming pool safety using different intelligent control systems. Various methods have been adopted for drowning detection using the concepts of image processing, pressure and motion sensing. The main objectives of this work are to detect the drowning person in an indoor swimming pool and send an alarm to the lifeguard to rescue if the previously detected person is missing for a specific amount of time.
