Public Goods, Environmental Externalities and Fiscal Competition : Selected Papers on Competition, Efficiency, and Cooperation in Public Economics by Henry Tulkens
The collection is structured in four parts: I. Decentralized resource allocation processes for public and private goods / II. Environment, public goods and externalities / III. Efficiency analysis / IV. Fiscal competition and optimality The four pictures above evoke a key concept, method or model used in each of these four parts: > MDP-type processes to determine feasible paths to efficiency and coalitional stability. > CLIMNEG World Simulation model to explore alternative environmental scenarios for the planet. > Free Disposal Hull efficiency analysis to drop convexity and help deal with outliers. > Non Cooperative Fiscal Equilbria to characterize the outcomes of fiscal competition

It provides an overview on key elements of German public administration at the federal, Länder and local levels of government as well as on current reform activities of the public sector
Psychotherapeutic Diagnostics : Guidelines for the New Standard
into account in particular respect of an intercultural and increasingly g- balized world. For what is experienced as painful, deviant, or troublesome is not only subject to individual perception but also to collective states of - consciousness. The diagnostic process may be understood as a form of translation in so far as a patient’s utterances, be they verbal or nonverbal, are transferred to a new code of understanding, a process every communicator is involved in because, as we all know, there is no such thing as non-communication. If in an empathic relational ? eld we manage to decode a patient’s subjective l- guage including that of her symptoms and distress, a new language will crop up which will ? nally explain the text the patient originally came up with. D- ferent visions entail different actions. At best, translating widens the scope of options of the affected individual and, precedingly, her scope of decisi- making.
Psychological Challenges to Obstetrics and Gynecology : The Clinical Management
This book attempts to address and redress this imbalance. Failure to understand the psychological aspects of a patients presentation leave the doctor feeling vulnerable and inadequate, searching for the right thing to say, avoiding that patient in future with subsequent poor care. This book, by providing the background knowledge, empowers the obstetrician/gynecologist to be in the key coordinating role, and to communicate effectively with all parties and other health workers who may need to be involved in psychological care. This book meets the needs of doctors that are not covered by their training (e.g. a chapter on "Communication Skills.
Psychological analysis : How to make money, outsmart the market, and Join the smart money circle
Conventional wisdom tells us that people are rational and make rational decisions with their money. But that's simply not true considering most people fail to beat the market. Conventional wisdom also tells us that there are two primary ways to approach the market: technical and fundamental analysis. Again, that is not true because if it were—everyone would be rich. Think about it, how many times have you seen stocks with poor fundamentals go up, or stocks with great technicals go down? It's obvious that something is missing.
Psychoanalysis and Neuroscience
The book focuses on the possibility of interactions between psychoanalysis and neuroscience - i.e., emotions and the right hemisphere, serotonin and depression - and will be a unique tool not only for for professionals and students working in these fields, but also for operators of allied disciplines, such as psychology and psychotherapy.
Psicoanalisi e Neuroscienze = Psychoanalysis and Neuroscience
The development of neuroscience has brought very significant contributions to the study of the human mind and its basic functions: memory, unconscious, dream, repression, empathy, sharing of affective and emotional states, imitation, intentionality. These functions form the basis of psychoanalytic theory of the mind and clinical practice. In particular, the discovery of implicit memory has made it possible to extend the concept of the unconscious to include that of the unconscious not repressed whose contents are related to primary childhood experiences. The study with bio-images and the discovery of mirror neurons also contributed to making known the neurophysiological basis of mental processes involved in transference and countertransference. The book, centered on the possible integration between Psychoanalysis and Neuroscience, is an essential training tool for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, neurologists and for scholars interested in the origins and functions of the human mind.
Pseudomonas syringae Pathovars and Related Pathogens : Identification, Epidemiology and Genomics
This book reports on recent advances on: (1) new methods and approaches for specific and sensitive detection and identification of Pseudomonas syringae and Ralstonia solanacearum; (2) ecology and epidemiology bases of Pseudomonas syringae that enable the development of management strategies; (3) pathogenesis and determinant of pathogenicity, and in particular, mechanisms involved in virulence and virulence gene expression; (4) evolution and diversity of the pseudomonads through multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analysis; (5) determination of pathogens associated with new and emerging diseases; (6) effect of global warming on increase and emergence of new bacterial diseases."
Pseudo-Differential Operators and Related Topics
The objective is to look at pseudo-differential operators and related topics and to report recent advances in a broad spectrum of topics such as partial differential equations, quantization, Wigner transforms, Weyl transforms on Lie groups, mathematical physics, time-frequency analysis, frames, and stochastic processes.
Pseudo-Differential Operators : Quantization and Signals
Pseudo-differential operators were initiated by Kohn, Nirenberg and Hörmander in the sixties of the last century. Beside applications in the general theory of partial differential equations, they have their roots also in the study of quantization first envisaged by Hermann Weyl thirty years earlier. Thanks to the understanding of the connections of wavelets with other branches of mathematical analysis, quantum physics and engineering, such operators have been used under different names as mathematical models in signal analysis since the last decade of the last century.

Protocols for Pre-Field Screening of Mutants for Salt Tolerance in Rice, Wheat and Barley
This book offers effective, low-cost and user-friendly protocols for the pre-field selection of salt-tolerant mutants in cereal crops. It presents simple methods for measuring soil salinity, including soil sampling and the analysis of water-soluble salts, and describes a detailed, but simple, screening test for salt tolerance in rice, wheat and barley seedlings, which uses hydroponics. The protocols are devised for use by plant breeders and can be easily accommodated into breeding practice.
Protest Movements in Asylum and Deportation
Deals with contestations “from below” of legal policies and implementation practices in asylum and deportation. Consequently, it covers three types of mobilization: solidarity protests against the deportation of refused asylum seekers, refugee activism campaigning for residence rights and inclusion, and restrictive protests against the reception of asylum seekers. By applying both a longitudinal analysis of protest events and a series of in-depth case studies in three immigration countries, this edited volume provides comparative insights into these three types of movement in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland over a time span of twenty-five years. Embedded in concepts of political change, limited state sovereignty, and migration control, the findings shed light on actors, repertoires, and the effects of protest activities. The contributions illustrate how local contexts, national political settings, issue specifics, and social ties lead to distinctly different forms of protest emergence, dynamics, and strategies.
