Computational Aspects of General Equilibrium Theory : Refutable Theories of Value
This monograph presents a general equilibrium methodology for microeconomic policy analysis. It is intended to serve as an alternative to the now classical, axiomatic general equilibrium theory as exposited in Debreu`s Theory of Value (1959) or Arrow and Hahn`s General Competitive Analysis (1971). The methodology proposed in this monograph does not presume the existence of market equilibrium, accepts the inherent indeterminancy of nonparametric general equlibrium models, and offers effective algorithms for computing counterfactual equilibria in these models. It consists of several essays written over the last decade, some with colleagues or former graduate students, and an appendix by Charles Steinhorn on the elements of O-minimal structures, the mathematical framework for our analysis.
Computational Acoustics of Noise Propagation in Fluids - Finite and Boundary Element Methods
Among numerical methods applied in acoustics, the Finite Element Method (FEM) is normally favored for interior problems whereas the Boundary Element Method (BEM) is quite popular for exterior ones. That is why this valuable reference provides a complete survey of methods for computational acoustics, namely FEM and BEM. It demonstrates that both methods can be effectively used in the complementary cases. The chapters by well-known authors are evenly balanced: 10 chapters on FEM and 10 on BEM. An initial conceptual chapter describes the derivation of the wave equation and supplies a unified approach to FEM and BEM for the harmonic case. A categorization of the remaining chapters and a personal outlook complete this introduction. In what follows, both FEM and BEM are discussed in the context of very different problems.

Complement and Kidney Disease
It is evident that a defective or deregulated complement system results in kidney diseases. An important role of complement effector and regulatory proteins in pathological settings of the kidney has been demonstrated. A large panel of distinct human kidney diseases is caused by defective complement control. Genetic analyses have identified mutations in complement regulators that are associated with these diseases. Mutations have been identified in the fluid phase alternative pathway regulator Factor H and the membrane regulator Membrane Cofactor Protein MCP (CD46). The functional characterization of the mutant proteins allows to define the pathophysiological events on a molecular level. These new concepts and data on disease mechanisms allowed establishing new diagnostic and promising therapeutic approaches for several human kidney diseases. Molecular biology, clinics and therapy are discussed in this volume.
Compiling ESTEREL
Esterel is based on the simple idea of providing a software language that has a synchronous model of time. That is, the execution of the program is divided into discrete instants, and statements are either guaranteed to execute in a single instant, or take multiple instants as requested by the programmer. Suitable for programming safety-critical real-time systems, Esterel and its model of computation have found use in industrial applications such as avionics, integrated circuit design, and other safety-critical environments. While Compiling Esterel does not assume prior knowledge of the Esterel language, readers will appreciate having prior knowledge of programming language semantics and compiler technology, along with some familiarity with synchronous digital hardware design.

Laser ablation has been recognized recently as the most effective, pleasant and reliable technique. It has the advantage of easy handling, short treatment time, hemostasis, decontamination, and sterilization effect. The objective of this study is to evaluate and compare scalpel and lasers techniques for gingival depigmentation and to evaluate their effect on re pigmentation.
Comparison of digital anesthesia using articaine vs. lidocaine for mandibular infiltration in pediatric patients : Aged 4-5 vs. 6-8 years
Articaine and lidocaine exhibit equivalent efficacy for mandibular infiltration via computerized systems in children aged 4–8 years. While articaine may marginally improve injection comfort, both agents provide reliable anesthesia with minimal complications.
