Gene delivery systems development and applications

Covers the development of gene therapy today, the technology involved, clinical applications of siRNA, non-viral vector-based mRNA delivery using nanotechnology, and RNA based vaccines for treating the infectious diseases. It also presents the current application of the CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technique which has revolutionized genome editing and which was awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Several new drug delivery systems are explored for the applications of gene therapy. These are found to be useful in treating chronic illnesses, including cancer and infectious diseases.

Gender and migration : IMISCOE short reader

This short reader offers a critical review of the debates on the transformation of migration and gendered mobilities primarily in Europe, though also engaging in wider theoretical insights. Building on empirical case studies and grounded in an analytical framework that incorporates both men and women, masculinities, sexualities and wider intersectional insights, this reader provides an accessible overview of conceptual developments and methodological shifts and their implications for a gendered understanding of migration in the past 30 years. It explores different and emerging approaches in major areas, such as: gendered labour markets across diverse sectors beyond domestic and care work to include skilled sectors of social reproduction; the significance of families in migration and transnational families.

Gases and Toxins that Cause Pulmonary Edema

Pulmonary edema is a major health problem in the lung, it is a cardinal feature of congestive heart failure. Pulmonary edema defined as excessive extravascular water in the lungs, is a common and serious clinical problem. Pulmonary edema can be life-threatening, but effective therapy is available to rescue patients from the deleterious consequences of disturbed lung fluid balance, which usually can be identified and, in many instances, corrected. So we like to talk about this common disease because of its importance and its wide spread around the world. Other important causes of pulmonary edema are human exposure to some gases and toxins, the most important of which is chlorine gas, phosgene, mustard gas, heroin, paraquat and ammonia. This research paper will discuss also the procedures that are included, as well as a wider knowledge of these toxins and gases.

Gas Cyclones and Swirl Tubes : Principles, Design, and Operation

These are cyclones used as gas-solid separators for dedusting and as gas-liquid separators for demisting, and as such they are widely used in industry. The optimization of cyclone performance for any given task is an often-sought goal but is seldom achieved in practice. Understanding cyclone performance as a function of a cyclone's size, geometry, feed properties, feed flow rates and the system of which it is a part, is essential if one wishes to successfully design, operate, troubleshoot or predict cyclone performance.

Game Theory and Mutual Misunderstanding : Scientific Dialogues in Five Acts

This book consists of five acts and two interludes, which are all written as dialogues between three main characters and other supporting characters. Each act discusses the epistemological, institutional and methodological foundations of game theory and economics, while using various stories and examples. A featured aspect of those discussions is that many forms of mutual misunderstanding are involved in social situations as well as in those fields themselves. One Japanese traditional comic story called the Konnyaku Mondo is representative and gives hints of how our thought is constrained by incorrect beliefs. Each dialogue critically examines extant theories and common misunderstanding in game theory and economics in order to find possible future developments of those fields.

Fuzzy Control and Filter Design for Uncertain Fuzzy Systems

ThisbookpresentsnewnovelmethodologiesfordesigningrobustH fuzzy ? controllers and robustH fuzzy ?lters for a class of uncertain fuzzy systems ? (UFSs), uncertain fuzzy Markovian jump systems (UFMJSs), uncertain fuzzy singularly perturbed systems (UFSPSs) and uncertain fuzzy singularly p- turbed systems with Markovian jumps (UFSPS–MJs). These new meth- ologies provide a framework for designing robustH fuzzy controllers and ? robustH fuzzy ?lters for these classes of systems based on a Tagaki-Sugeno ? (TS) fuzzy model. Solutions to the design problems are presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

Future Satellite Gravimetry and Earth Dynamics

Currently, a first generation of dedicated satellite missions for the precise mapping of the Earth’s gravity field is in orbit (CHAMP, GRACE, and soon GOCE). The gravity data from these satellite missions provide us with very new information on the dynamics of planet Earth. In particular, on the mass distribution in the Earth’s interior, the entire water cycle (ocean circulation, ice mass balance, continental water masses, and atmosphere), and on changes in the mass distribution. The results are fascinating, but still rough with respect to spatial and temporal resolution. Technical progress in satellite-to-satellite tracking and in gravity gradiometry will allow more detailed results in the future. In this special issue, Earth scientists develop visions of future applications based on follow-on high-precision satellite gravimetry missions.

Funds, Flows and Time : An Alternative Approach to the Microeconomic Analysis of Productive Activities

The subject of this book is production, which is an important and extensive field in economic science. In fact, production, distribution and consump tion were long considered the three federated kingdoms which together formed the great empire of the economy. According to other slightly dif ferent traditions, production also held pride of place, specifically as a basic link in the long chain of social reproduction. Today, whatever the theoreti cal approach, production is a fundamental requirement for human survival. This was not, however, always the case. For much of the history of man kind hominids were hunter, scavenger and gatherers, with very little con trol over their environment, and extremely little in the way of artefacts with which to work. However, since the Neolithic revolution, productive processes have constituted an essential mechanism, providing human soci ety with goods and services to satisfy its needs and cravings.

Fundamentals of Virtual Colonoscopy

Virtual colonoscopy is a rapidly developing technique that can be performed in an outpatient setting without sedation. It promises to be safer and less intrusive than conventional diagnostic tests for colon cancer and is attractive to patients. Despite the attention that virtual colonoscopy has received among medical professionals, many lack an understanding of the basics of this cutting-edge procedure. Renowned radiologist Abraham Dachman, MD, and a distinguished group of international contributors have prepared a fundamentals book that fills this void. This practical handbook fully explains the essentials of this state-of-the-art technique to radiologists, gastroenterologists, radiology residents, and technologists. Major concepts are reinforced by clear, true-to-life illustrations. Readers will find that the practical design and current content of this guide make it an essential introduction to CT colonography.
