The mechanics of biological tissues is a multidisciplinary and rapidly expanding area of research. This book highlights some important research directions that combine mechanical sciences with exciting new developments in biology. This collection of papers should be of interest to theoretical, computational and experimental researchers and doctoral students in the area of biomechanics and in related areas of engineering, biology and medicine.

Maxillofacial Imaging
Demonstrates how advanced medical imaging techniques can be successfully applied to dental and maxillofacial conditions. There is a focus on CT and MRI, but the use of all contemporary imaging techniques are illustrated including PET, PET/CT, ultrasonography, and cone beam CT. The presentation is in atlas style, with succinct, bulleted text and a wealth of high-quality images in multiple planes. All images for each patient are grouped to enable the reader very quickly to gain an imaging overview of the condition under consideration. After a comprehensive introductory chapter on normal imaging anatomy, the role of advanced imaging techniques is described in pathologic conditions of the mandible and maxilla, temporomandibular joint, regions closely related to the jaw, paranasal sinuses, oral cavity, salivary glands, and structures adjacent to the maxillofacial region. A concluding chapter examines the use of interventional procedures for diagnosis and treatment of maxillofacial conditions. Compared with the first edition, numerous additional cases have been incorporated and a completely new chapter focuses on cone beam CT.

Demand for timber and fibre continues to grow and is being met by increased reliance on plantation forestry. Many of the plantations that are being grown around the globe are non-native species that have characteristics of rapid growth and good commercial qualities. In some cases, the high rates of production are a result of the absence of native herbivore and diseases. This limited pest status is threatened as pest species move around the globe. At the same time there is concern about threats of these non-native plantation species on native communities and the impact of changing climates on forest productivity. Interphases and Mesophases in Polymer Crystallization I
Polyethylene forms a two-dimensional hexagonal phase, stable at 3 GPa depending on molecular length, which in recent years has been claimed to intervene in crystallization prior to the formation of the usual orthorhombic phase even at atmospheric pressure. This claim is evaluated and shown to be without substance. There is very little evidence that the theoretical possibility of thin lamellae being more stable in the hexagonal phase than the orthorhombic at atmospheric pressure, if the former has sufficiently low fold surface free energy, does occur in practice. But the existence of single crystals of the orthorhombic phase unambiguously shows that they did not have a hexagonal precursor; that would have made them threefold twins. The overwhelming mass of evidence is that orthorhombic and hexagonal phases crystallize independently in accordance with the phase diagram and kinetic competition during growth, as has been understood since the hexagonal phase was discovered.

The development of international trade theory has created a wide array of different theories, concepts and results. Economic students are trained to understand international interactions by severally incompatible theories one by one in the same course. In order to overcome incoherence among multiple theories, we need a general theoretical framework which enables us to account for the phenomena explained by the current theories in a unified manner to draw together all of the disparate branches of trade theory into a single organized system of knowledge. This book provides a powerful – but easy to operate - engine of analysis that sheds light not only on trade theory per se, but on many other dimensions that interact with trade, including inequality, saving propensities, education, research policy, and knowledge. The book starts with the traditional static trade theories. Then, it develops dynamic models with capital and knowledge under perfect competition and/or monopolistic competition.

They provided a stimulating intellectual forum for discussion among previously disparate communities: academic researchers in information technologies, computer science, public policy, and social studies; local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence experts; and information technology industry consultants and practitioners.

The aim of this book is to document for the first time the dimensions and requirements of effective integrated groundwater management (IGM). Groundwater management is a formidable challenge, one that remains one of humanity’s foremost priorities. In the 21st century, the issue moves from how to simply obtain the water we need to how we manage it sustainably for future generations, future economies, and future ecosystems. Many interrelated dimensions, however, come to bear when trying to manage groundwater effectively.
