Existence and Regularity Properties of the Integrated Density of States of Random Schrödinger Operators

The theory of random Schrödinger operators is devoted to the mathematical analysis of quantum mechanical Hamiltonians modeling disordered solids. Apart from its importance in physics, it is a multifaceted subject in its own right, drawing on ideas and methods from various mathematical disciplines like functional analysis, selfadjoint operators, PDE, stochastic processes and multiscale methods. The present text describes in detail a quantity encoding spectral features of random operators: the integrated density of states or spectral distribution function. Various approaches to the construction of the integrated density of states and the proof of its regularity properties are presented.

Évaluation des troubles neuropsychologiques en vie quotidienne = Assessment of neuropsychological disorders in daily life

Neurological diseases such as stroke, head trauma, Alzheimer's disease pose a public health problem. They affect all ages, from children to the elderly. They affect the possibilities of autonomy in daily life, the possibilities of social or professional integration. In these pathologies, neuropsychological disorders: disorders of language, memory, attention, etc., are the source of crucial difficulties. Cognitive tests performed by psychologists are essential for their diagnosis, but do not on their own make it possible to prejudge the difficulties encountered by people in their everyday life. This book presents an original approach to neuropsychological disorders, by describing specific assessments describing difficulties in daily life, in order to better understand them and to quantify their impact. The second part of the book develops the consequences in clinical practice in particular populations - children and the elderly - or the social objective of the evaluation, in particular school integration, professional integration and driving. Finally, the relevance of these assessments in the context of recent laws on disabled people as well as the development of compensation for bodily injury after an accident are also discussed.

Evaluating the Employment Effects of Job Creation Schemes in Germany

This book analyses the employment effects of job creation schemes for the participating individuals in Germany. Programmes provide subsidised jobs that are additional in nature and of value for society to hard-to-place individuals. International evidence on the effectiveness suggests that programmes should be targeted to the needs of the unemployed and should be offered early in the unemployment spell. Both questions are studied for job creation schemes in Germany. In the empirical analysis, propensity score matching methods extended to the dynamic setting are applied to administrative data of the Federal Employment Agency.

Essentials of Pharmacology for Dentistry

Pharmacology, the science of drugs (medicines), is a highly dynamic discipline with concepts and priority drugs changing rapidly. Its relevance to all health professionals (including dentists) cannot be over emphasized. Practice of dentistry utilizes drugs both as primary treatment modality, as well as facilitator of/adjuvant to dental procedures. Dentists routinely prescribe analgesics and antibiotics, apply antiseptics and other locally acting drugs, and inject local anaesthetics. Further, many dental patients could be receiving other medication that may have orodental implications or may interact with drugs prescribed by the dentist. Occasionally, dentists have to manage a medical emergency which may arise during a dental procedure or in their clinic. As such, a broad knowledge of pharmacology along with focus on aspects is needed by the dentist.

EQ-5D value sets

For various reasons, cost benefit analysis is usually rejected in favour of cost-effectiveness or cost-utility analyses, often involving the estimation of the incremental cost per Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) gained (Drummond et al, 2005). The estimation of QALYs gained requires valuations for all relevant health states on a scale anchored at 1 = Full health and 0 = Dead. The EQ-5D is widely used in this context and a number of value sets are available for all the health states generated by the EQ-5D descriptive system. These can be readily applied to health outcomes measured as EQ-5D profiles. EQ-5D has become one of the valuation approaches recommended by several reimbursement authorities and academic bodies in European countries

Elasticity of Transversely Isotropic Materials

This book aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to the theory and applications of the mechanics of transversely isotropic elastic materials. There are many reasons why it should be written. First, the theory of transversely isotropic elastic materials is an important branch of applied mathematics and engineering science; but because of the difficulties caused by anisotropy, the mathematical treatments and descriptions of individual problems have been scattered throughout the technical literature. This often hinders further development and applications. Hence, a text that can present the theory and solution methodology uniformly is necessary.
