Disseminative Capabilities : A Case Study of Collaborative Product Development in the Automotive Industry
Nowadays, cooperating in Product Development seems to be a dominant strategy to lower costs and risks, to fully utilize capacities, and to gain access to lacking knowledge assets. Oppat analyzes cooperations in Product Development with a special focus on the automotive industry. He seeks answers to the question of how knowledge transfer between involved partners takes place. Although knowledge transfer and its success levers (e.g. absorptive capacity) are well-researched phenomena, equivalent investigations of the sender and her capabilities (DiC - Disseminative Capabilities) impacting inter-organizational transfer success are lacking. The in-depth case studies conducted concentrate on joint car development projects between Magna Steyr, an Austrian-based company, and German-based BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi. The research results clearly indicate that DiC have an impact on the knowledge transfer process and can explain why the analyzed projects differ in terms of transfer success. Based on the research findings, this work provides managerial implications for all eight dimensions of DiC and, by deploying insights from the empirical investigations, outlines ways to develop them successfully.

The CityForm consortium’s latest book, Dimensions of the Sustainable City, is the first book to report on an empirical multi-disciplinary study specifically designed to address urban sustainability. Drawing together the various dimensions of sustainability – economic, social, transport, energy and ecological – the book examines their relationships both to each other and to urban form. The field is rather young. After the diffusion of ICT in the world of organizations and companies, ICT entered everyday life. And this also influenced ICT research and development. The 1998 Workshop on Communityware and Social Interaction in Kyoto was an early meeting in which this emerging field was discussed.

Designing sustainable and resilient cities : Small interventions for stronger urban food-water-energy management
Explores the link between the food-water-energy nexus and sustainability, and the extraordinary value that small tweaks to this nexus can achieve for more resilient cities and communities. Using data from Urban Living Labs in six participating cities (Eindhoven, Gdansk, Miami, Southend-on-Sea, Taipei and Uppsala) to co-define context-specific challenges, the results from each city are collated into an Integrated Decision Support System to guide and improve robust decision making on future urban development. Courbes algébriques planes = Plane Algebraic Curves
Resulting from a master's course at the University of Paris VII, this text is re-edited as it appeared in 1978. Various tools are introduced in connection with Bézout's theorem necessary for the development of the notion of the multiplicity of intersection of two algebraic curves in the complex projective plane. Starting from elementary notions on affine and projective algebraic subsets, we define the intersection multiplicities and interpret their sum in terms of the resultant of two polynomials. The local study is a pretext for the introduction of formal or convergent series rings; it culminates in Puiseux's theorem, the convergence of which is reduced by splits to that of the theorem of implicit functions. Various figures illuminate the text: we "see" in particular that the homogeneous equation x3 + y3 + z3 = 0 defines a torus in the complex projective plane.
Counteracting Urban Heat Island Effects in a Global Climate Change Scenario
Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) are a microclimatic phenomenon which manifests as a significant increase in the temperature of cities compared to their surrounding areas. Recently the phenomenon has been enforced by the tendency to climate change and in particular by extreme climate events. This book presents and analyzes the results of a project to develop and apply mitigation and adaptation strategies and measures for counteracting the global urban heat islands phenomenon, supported by the EU’s Central Europe Regional Development Fund.

Contemporary Housing Struggles : A Structural Field of Contention Approach
This book provides a comparative study of housing contention in Budapest and Bucharest in 2008-2021. The financialization of housing and the resulting inequalities, expulsions and social contention are a central characteristic of today’s capitalist crisis. These two East European cities that fall outside the usual focus of urban movements research provide an illuminating case of similar structural conditions governed by different political constellations at the national and local scales. Instead of searching for unilinear narratives connecting structural tensions to politicized claims, the book offers an in-depth contextual analysis of multiple forms of contention, their (often unintentional) interactions, and their broader political-structural background, including tensions surrounded by political silence.

Coming to Terms with Superdiversity: The Case of Rotterdam
This book discusses Rotterdam as clear example of a superdiverse city that is only reluctantly coming to terms with this new reality. Rotterdam, as is true for many post-industrial cities, has seen a considerable backlash against migration and diversity: the populist party Leefbaar Rotterdam of the late Pim Fortuyn is already for many years the largest party in the city. At the same time Rotterdam has become a majority minority city where the people of Dutch descent have become a numerical minority themselves. The book explores how Rotterdam is coming to terms with superdiversity, by an analysis of its migration history of the city, the composition of the migrant population and the Dutch working class population, local politics and by a comparison with Amsterdam and other cities. As such it contributes to a better understanding not just of how and why super-diverse cities emerge but also how and why the reaction to a super-diverse reality can be so different.
