Architectural drawings as investigating devices : Architecture’s changing scope in the 20th century
Explores how the changing modes of representation in architecture and urbanism relate to the transformation of how the addressees of architecture and urbanism are conceived. Diagnoses the dominant epistemological debates in architecture and urbanism during the 20th and 21st centuries. Particular emphasis is placed on the spirit of truth and clarity in modernist architecture, the relationship between the individual and the community in post-war era architecture, the decodification of design process as syntactic analogy and the paradigm of autonomy in the 1970s and 1980s architecture, the concern about the dynamic character of urban conditions and the potentialities hidden in architectural programme in the post-autonomy era.
Applied Remote Sensing for Urban Planning, Governance and Sustainability
Despite the promising and exciting possibilities presented by new and fast-developing remote sensing technologies applied to urban areas, there is still a gap perceived between the generally academic and research-focused spectrum of results offered by the “urban remote sensing” community and the application of these data and products by the local governmental bodies of urban cities and regions. While there is no end of interesting science questions that we can ask about cities, sometimes these questions don't match well with what the operational problems and concerns of a given city are. The authors present data from six urban regions from all over the world. They explain what the important questions are, and how one can use data and scientific skills to help answer them.

This treatise on anion sensing and recognition represents a new addition to a very small number of books in this area, Although this Topics volume does not cover all the different classes fo receptors, it does provide new and timely perspectives to anion chemistry by highlighting several areas that have been generally overlooked in other reviews. The individual chapters are well-written and include references from earlier works up to the present. As such, this volume will be of interest to the community of researchers interested in anions as well as to those who wish to learn about the host-guest chemistry of anion recognition and its applications.

Alzheimer : 100 Years and Beyond
Few medical or scientific addresses have so unmistakeably made history as the presentation delivered by Alois Alzheimer on November 4th, 1906 in Tübingen. The celebratory event, "Alzheimer 100 Years and Beyond" organized on the initiative of the Alzheimer community in Germany and worldwide, in collaboration with the Fondation Ipsen, at the very site of the original lecture, namely the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of Tübingen in Germany from November 2nd to 5th, 2006, was the highlight of the Alzheimer Year. Over the last century of Alzheimer research (1906-2006), remarkable progress has been achieved. Most of the authors of the major discoveries and the people involved in research in this field will present, during the meeting and in this volume, the pioneering research explaining the conditions under which they were conducted. The goal of this book is to honor the work accomplished, to summarize the most important knowledge and to provide material for the history of science.

CALCO, the Conference on Algebra and Coal-gebra in Computer Science, was created to bring together researchers and practitio-ners to exchange new results related to foundational aspects, and both traditional and emerging uses of algebras and coalgebras in computer science. CALCO 2005 was the first instance of this new conference. The interest that it generated in the scientific community suggests that it will not be the last. Moreover,the peculiar nature of scienti?c researchin arti?cial intelligence (which is intrinsically international) and several consolidated int- national collaborations in projects and mobility programs allowed the collection and selection of papers from many di?erent countries, all around the world, enlarging the visibility of the Italian contribution within this research ?eld. Arti?cial intelligence is today a growing complex set of conceptual, theor- ical, methodological, and technological frameworks, o?ering innovative com- tational solutions in the design and development of computer-based systems. Within this perspective, researchers working in this area must tackle a broad range of knowledge about methods, results, and solutions coming from di?erent classical areas of this discipline. The congress was designed as a forum allowing researchers to present and discuss specialized results as general contributions to AI growth.
