Landscape Pattern Analysis for Assessing Ecosystem Condition

Landscape Pattern Analysis for Assessing Ecosystem Condition presents a new method for assessing spatial pattern in raster land cover maps based on satellite imagery in a way that incorporates multiple pixel resolutions. This is combined with more conventional single-resolution measurements of spatial pattern and simple non-spatial land cover proportions to assess predictability of both surface water quality and ecological integrity within watersheds of the state of Pennsylvania (USA).

La protesi di ginocchio di primo impianto = The first-time knee prosthesis

Total knee replacement has now become a routine procedure in our operating rooms. The widespread use of this procedure, however, should not obscure the complexity of this joint surgery, which also relies on sophisticated computer aids. Drawing on their long and proven experience, the authors of this fourth volume in the series provide the reader with an updated overview of the state of the art.

La marche de linfirme moteur cérébral enfant et adulte = Gait in children and adults with cerebral palsy

Patients with cerebral palsy (CP) face numerous neuromotor problems related to brain damage, the functional consequences of which, in the early years of life, impact the acquisition of walking. A better understanding of gait and its levels of control, along with refined and quantified clinical analysis in the laboratory, allows for the definition of therapeutic options in collaboration with the patient, their family, and the healthcare team. Managing muscle tone disorders and neuro-orthopedic problems is a daily challenge for patients at all ages. Patients with CP increasingly benefit from new drug therapies, regular adjustments of walking aids and orthotics, and specific rehabilitation, sometimes combined with surgical procedures, whether orthopedic or neurological. This book reviews the evolution of knowledge and practices.

La lombalgie en 2007 : Aspects pratiques = Low back pain in 2007 : Practical aspects

Low back pain is one of the main reasons for consultation, whether in general or specialized medicine. It poses a real public health problem. This "back pain", which can despair patients and doctors by its sometimes rebellious character, explains the multiplicity of examinations sometimes practiced and the treatments implemented. This work is a collection of the most recent developments in terms of physiopathological knowledge of disc involvement, clinical examination and the place of surgery and in particular disc prostheses. An update concerns the indications and contributions of additional examinations; some formidable diagnostic traps are mentioned. Medical treatments such as infiltrations, manipulations, the benefit of restraints and the provision of acupuncture are being developed. Also discussed are the latest scientific data on isokinetic evaluation and retraining, as well as the role of sports activity as a factor in the prevention or aggravation of low back pain. Finally, the medico-legal aspect is dealt with in the context of work accidents, and the assessment after trauma. This book is the result of the collaboration and experience of undisputed specialists in this field.

La disprassia in età evolutiva : Criteri di valutazione ed intervento = Dyspraxia in developmental age : Evaluation criteria and intervention

As clinical and rehabilitation practice shows, children with dyspraxia are unable to plan and organize an action plan; they cannot control what they are doing during an action; therefore, they cannot do something, but we could also admit that they cannot yet do something; that is, they have not yet learned to perform functions. Functions and actions, however, can be learned and performed with the help of targeted exercises performed consistently. It is, however, essential to recognize the difficulties children with dyspraxia face when faced with new, unusual tasks. The author proposes an assessment and intervention model that takes into account etiological and neuropsychological hypotheses, emphasizing the need to proceed with an analysis on multiple levels: perceptual, motor, and representational. Particular importance is given to early diagnosis and intervention to define and implement appropriate treatment plans. The work concludes with the analysis and description of clinical cases related to some specific forms of dyspraxia: verbal dyspraxia and dysgraphia.

Knowledge Management for Health Care Procedures ; From Knowledge to Global Care, AIME 2007 Workshop K4CARE 2007, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, July 7, 2007, Revised Selected Papers

The incursion of information and communication technologies (ICT) in health care entails evident bene?ts at the levels of security and efciency that improve not only the quality of life of the patients, but also the quality of the work of the health care professionals and the costs of national health care systems. Leaving research approaches aside, the analysis of ICT in health care shows an evo- tion from the initial interest in representing and storing health care data (i. e. , electronic health care records) to the current interest of having remote access to electronic health care systems, as for example HL7 initiatives or telemedicine. This sometimes imperceptible evolution can be interpreted as a new step of the progress path of health care informatics.

Kinship and Demographic Behavior in the Past

This book examines the role of kinship and the family’s influence on the health outcomes of their children, their children’s selection of marriage partners, couples having higher order births or reduced fertility, individual migration and origins of populations. Mortality patterns are examined to determine the influence of fertility patterns on parents’ mortality, the contribution of parents’ longevity to their children’s lifespan, and the whether a family history of disease affects the risk of dying from that same disease. This volume emphasizes the importance of studies that include and compare other factors related to social organization with information on multi-generational families. The authors elucidate previous explanations and provide provocative new results. Such intergenerational research is crucial in understanding long term demographic trends and processes.

Kidney Diseases

Kidney diseases is a “hidden epidemic” affecting 850 million people worldwide. It occurs when the kidneys become damaged and can’t perform their function. Damage may be caused by diabetes, high blood pressure, and various other chronic conditions. Kidney diseases can lead to other health problems, including weak bones, nerve damage, and malnutrition. There are two main types of kidney diseases: short-term (acute kidney failure) and lifelong (chronic kidney failure). If the diseases get worse over time, the kidneys may stop working completely. This means that dialysis will be required to perform the function of the kidneys or kidney transplant. Dialysis is a treatment that filters and purifies the blood using a machine. It can’t cure kidney diseases, but it can prolong the life.

Kidney complications & transplantation

Kidney diseases are worldwide public health problems with a high cost and increasing incidence. By revealing the genetic and cellular mechanism behind mammalian kidney development, better diagnostic methods and novel therapies can be expected to be developed. The mammalian kidney is a typical organ that develops on the basis of sequential and reciprocal cell and tissue interactions. Pyelonephritis, Glomerulonephritis, Kidney stones, Nephrotic syndrome, and Acute or chronic kidney failure are the most complications in the kidney kingdom, so that living kidney transplantation has become the preferred treatment for those patients who can’t have the powerful capacity of the kidney function, and here it has a very rejection risk in the first month and we can controlled in this situation with long term immunosuppressant therapy involved in the post-transplantation protocol.

Keto diet

It‘s a low-carb, high-fat eating plan. Most of what you eat is fat, whether that‘s unsaturated fats like nuts, seeds, and avocados, or saturated fats like butter and coconut oil. About 20%-30% of your diet is protein, either lean (like chicken breast) or fatty (like bacon). You‘re supposed to strictly limit carbs, even those that are typically considered healthy, such as beans, whole grains, milk, and many types of fruits and vegetables...

Japan Nutrition

This auto-translation book demonstrates a time series of nutrition improvement in Japan since the introduction of nutrition sciences to Japan about 150 years ago. The chapters present the historical event where nutritional deficiency due to food shortage was improved in almost a century, by the introduction of nutrition policy and practices such as the "Nutrition Improvement Law". The book contributed to the construction of a longevity nation by resolving the double burden of malnutrition, which is a mixture of undernutrition and overnutrition and creating a social environment in which sustainable healthy diets can be accessed.
