Self-Adaptive Heuristics for Evolutionary Computation
This book introduces various types of self-adaptive parameters for evolutionary computation. Biased mutation for evolution strategies is useful for constrained search spaces. Self-adaptive inversion mutation accelerates the search on combinatorial TSP-like problems. After the analysis of self-adaptive crossover operators the book concentrates on premature convergence of self-adaptive mutation control at the constraint boundary. Besides extensive experiments, statistical tests and some theoretical investigations enrich the analysis of the proposed concepts.
Selective Sweep
Selective Sweep deals with the theory and practice of detection of recent adaptive evolution at the genomic level from the patterns of DNA polymorphism. Recent advances in genomic sequencing provide the background for analysis of polymorphic sites in large chromosomal regions or even in whole genome, thus providing the tool for effective identification of loci that are under strong pressure of positive selection. For this reason, the studies of selective sweep, which formerly were of interest mostly to evolutionists, have become widely recognized and appreciated by the large biological community involved in identification of the targets of selection during speciation, host/pathogen interactions, and resistance to chemical agents.
Selective Sentinel Lymphadenectomy for Human Solid Cancer
Lymph node (LN) status is the most important prognostic indicator for the clinical outcome of patients in human solid cancer. Recent developments in sentinel lymph node (SLN) concept and technology have resulted in the application of this revolutionary approach to determine if cancer has metastasized. The underlying thesis in solid cancer biology is that metastasis generally starts in an orderly progression, often spreading through the lymphatic channels to the SLN. Thus, the logical approach is to harvest that specific SLN for thorough analysis.

Selected Preserver Problems on Algebraic Structures of Linear Operators and on Function Spaces
Over the past several decades, the territory of preserver problems has been continuously enlarging within the frame of linear analysis. The aim of this work is to present a sort of cross-section of the modern theory of preservers on infinite dimensional spaces (operator spaces and function spaces) through the author's corresponding results. Special emphasis is put on preserver problems concerning some structures of Hilbert space operators which appear in quantum mechanics. Moreover, local automorphisms and local isometries of operator algebras and function algebras are discussed in details.

Selected Contributions in Data Analysis and Classification
This was the era of the ?rst university calculation centres that one accessed over a counter. One would deposit cards on which program and data were punched in and come back a few hours or days later for the results. Like all those who used linear data analysis, the computer enabled me to calculate for each data set the value of mathematical objects (eigenvalues and eigenvectors for example) whose optimality properties had been demonstrated by mathematicians. It was - ready a big step to be able to do this in concrete experimental situations. With Dynamic Clustering Algorithm, Edwin Diday allowed us to discover that computers could be more than just a way of giving numerical values to known mathematical objects.
