Agent-oriented software engineering VI ; 6th International Workshop, AOSE 2005, Utrecht, The Netherlands, July 25, 2005. Revised and Invited Papers
This book represents the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Agent-Oriented Software Engineering, AOSE 2005, held in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in July 2005 as part of AAMAS 2005. The 18 revised full papers were carefully selected from 35 submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The papers are organized in topical sections on modeling tools, analysis and validation tools, multiagent systems design, implementation tools, and experiences and comparative evaluations.

The explosive growth of application areas such as electronic commerce, ent- prise resource planning and mobile computing has profoundly and irreversibly changed our views on software systems. Nowadays, software is to be based on open architectures that continuously change and evolve to accommodate new components and meet new requirements. Software must also operate on di?- ent platforms, without recompilation, and with minimal assumptions about its operating environment and its users. Furthermore, software must be robust and ¨ autonomous, capable of serving a naive user with a minimum of overhead and interference. Agent concepts hold great promise for responding to the new realities of software systems. They o?er higher-level abstractions and mechanisms which address issues such as knowledge representation and reasoning, communication, coordination, cooperation among heterogeneous and autonomous parties, p- ception, commitments, goals, beliefs, and intentions, all of which need conceptual modelling. On the one hand, the concrete implementation of these concepts can lead to advanced functionalities.

Information systems have become the backbone of all kinds of organizations - day. In almost every sector – manufacturing, education, health care, government and businesses large and small – information systems are relied upon for - eryday work, communication, information gathering and decision-making. Yet, the in?exibilities in current technologies and methods have also resulted in poor performance, incompatibilities and obstacles to change. As many organizations are reinventing themselves to meet the challenges of global competition and e-commerce, there is increasing pressure to develop and deploy new technologies that are ?exible, robust and responsive to rapid and unexpected change. Advances in web based learning -- ICWL 2006 ; 5th International conference, Penang, Malaysia, July 19-21, 2006, Revised Papers
The conference program was organized in a single-track 3-day workshop. It included a tutorial, a keynote talk, and oral/poster paper presentations in several sessions dedicated to specific topics. Session topics included “Personalization in E-Learning,” “Designs, Model and Framework of E-Learning Systems,” “Implementations and Evaluations of E-Learning Systems,” “Tools in E-Learning,” and “Learning Resource Deployment, Organization and Management. ” We received a total of 99 submissions from all over the world.

This year, the program consisted of 13 oral sessions, one poster session, ten special tracks, and six keynote presentations. The response to the call for - pers was very strong. We received more than twice the papers received last year. Specifcally, we received over 280 submissions for the main symposium from which we accepted 65 papers for oral presentation (23% acceptance) and 56 papers for poster presentation (20% acceptance). Special track papers were solicited separately through the Organizing and Program Committees of each track. A total of 57 papers were accepted for presentation in the special tracks. All papers were reviewed with an emphasis on potential to contribute to the state of the art in the ?eld. Selection criteria included accuracy and originality of ideas, clarity and signi?cance of results, and presentation quality. The review process was quite rigorous, involving two to three independent blind reviews followed by several days of discussion.

The Seventh International Symposium on Spatial and Temporal Databases (SSTD 2001), held in Redondo Beach, CA, USA, July 12{15, 2001, brought together leading researchers and developers in the area of spatial, temporal, and spatio-temporal databases to discuss the state of the art in spatial and temporal data management and applications, and to understand the challenges and - search directions in the advancing area of data management for moving objects. The symposium served as a forum for disseminating research in spatial and temporal data management, and for maximizing the interchange of knowledge among researchers from the established spatial and temporal database com- nities. The exchange of research ideas and results not only contributes to the academic arena, but also bene ts the user and commercial communities.

Multiresolution methods in geometric modelling are concerned with the generation, representation, and manipulation of geometric objects at several levels of detail. Applications include fast visualization and rendering as well as coding, compression, and digital transmission of 3D geometric objects.The book contains seven survey papers, providing a detailed overview of recent advances in the various fields within multiresolution modelling, and sixteen additional research papers. Each of the seven parts of the book starts with a survey paper, followed by the associated research papers in that area.

Machine learning and cybernetics play an important role in many modern electronic, computer and communications systems. Automated processing of information by these systems requires intelligent analysis of various types of data and optimal decision making. In recent years, we have witnessed a rapid expansion of research and development activities in machine learning and cybernetics. To provide opportunities for researchers in these areas to share their ideas and foster collaborations, the International Conference on Machines and Cybernetics (ICMLC) has been held annually since 2002. The conference series has achieved a great success in attracting a large number of paper submissions and participants and enabling fruitful exchanges among academic and industrial researchers and postgraduate students. In 2005, the conference (ICMLC 2005) received 2461 full paper submissions and the Program Committee selected 1050 of them for presentation. It is especially encouraging that the conference is attracting more and more international attention.

Forexample, the proceeding sinclude papers withth eoretical contributions dealing with statistical approaches to sequence alignment as well as papers addressing practical problems in the areas of text classification and medical data analysis. It is reassuring to see that IDA continues to bring such diverse areas together, thus helping to cross-fertilize these fields
