Data Quality : Concepts, Methodologies and Techniques
Batini and Scannapieco present a comprehensive and systematic introduction to the wide set of issues related to data quality. They start with a detailed description of different data quality dimensions, like accuracy, completeness, and consistency, and their importance in different types of data, like federated data, web data, or time-dependent data, and in different data categories classified according to frequency of change, like stable, long-term, and frequently changing data. The book's extensive description of techniques and methodologies from core data quality research as well as from related fields like data mining, probability theory, statistical data analysis, and machine learning gives an excellent overview of the current state of the art.
Data mining and machine learning applications
Elaborates in detail on the current needs of data mining and machine learning and promotes mutual understanding among research in different disciplines, thus facilitating research development and collaboration. Data, the latest currency of today’s world, is the new gold. In this new form of gold, the most beautiful jewels are data analytics and machine learning. Data mining and machine learning are considered interdisciplinary fields. Data mining is a subset of data analytics and machine learning involves the use of algorithms that automatically improve through experience based on data.
Data mining and knowledge management ; Chinese academy of sciences symposium CASDMKD 2004, Beijing, China, July 12-14, 2004, Revised Paper
Knowledge management for enterprise: These papers address various issues related to the application of knowledge management in corporations using various techniques. A particular emphasis here is on coordination and cooperation. • Risk management: Better knowledge management also requires more advanced techniques for risk management, to identify, control, and minimize the impact of uncertain events, as shown in these papers, using fuzzy set theory and other approaches for better risk management. • Integration of data mining and knowledge management: As indicated earlier, the integration of these two research fields is still in the early stage. Nevertheless, as shown in the papers selected in this volume, researchers have endearored to integrate data mining methods such as neural networks with various aspects related to knowledge management,

Data Journeys in the Sciences
This groundbreaking, book analyses and compares data practices across several fields through the analysis of specific cases of data journeys. It brings together leading scholars in the philosophy, history and social studies of science to achieve two goals: tracking the travel of data across different spaces, times and domains of research practice; and documenting how such journeys affect the use of data as evidence and the knowledge being produced.
Data Integration in the Life Sciences ; Vol. 4075 ; 3rd International Workshop, DILS 2006, Hinxton, UK, July 20-22, 2006, Proceedings
Data management and data integration are fundamental problems in the life sciences. Advances in molecular biology and molecular medicine are almost u- versallyunderpinned by enormouse?orts in data management, data integration, automatic data quality assurance, and computational data analysis. Many hot topics in the life sciences, such as systems biology, personalized medicine, and pharmacogenomics, critically depend on integrating data sets and applications producedby di?erent experimentalmethods, in di?erent researchgroups, andat di?erent levels of granularity.

Cybersecurity for business : Organization-wide strategies to ensure cyber risk Is not just an IT Issue
Important and cost-effective innovations can substantially increase cyber risk and the loss of intellectual property, corporate reputation and consumer confidence. Over the past several years, organizations around the world have increasingly come to appreciate the need to address cybersecurity issues from a business perspective, not just from a technical or risk angle. Cybersecurity for Business builds on a set of principles developed with international leaders from technology, government and the boardroom to lay out a clear roadmap of how to meet goals without creating undue cyber risk.
Crossroads of Entrepreneurship
Crossroads of Entrepreneurship presents works from scholars belonging to a number of different disciplines - business history, economics, sociology and management - and addresses a cross section of issues in the entrepreneurship field. Contributions are arranged in different sections, emphasizing dialogue across disciplines and paradigms, rather than boundaries between them. The first section of the work is a compilation of papers that trace the historical roots of study in entrepreneurship in different disciplinary domains, and highlight the fundamental issues addressed by past research. A second section gathers empirical studies adopting various methods and investigating different aspects of entrepreneurial action. The third section collects contributions investigating the development of entrepreneurship in different national settings. The work reveals a convergence of issues and interests, despite paradigmatic differences, and the potential benefits of more intense conversation across disciplines.
Critical Infrastructures at Risk : Securing the European Electric Power System
This book explores the potential risks and vulnerabilities of the European electricity infrastructure, other infrastructures and our society as whole increasingly depend on. The work was initiated by the need to verify the potential effects of the ongoing market and technical transformation of the infrastructure, which is fundamentally changing its operation and performance. The final aim is to set the basis for an appropriate industrial and political European-wide response to the risk challenges.
Crisis Management in Acute Care Settings : Human Factors and Team Psychology in a High Stakes Enviroment
This book addresses all issues relevant to error prevention and safe practice in the acute and emergency health-care setting. It begins with the basic principles of human behavior and decision making and then partitions into three sections where the individual, the team, and the organizational influences within the health-care system are discussed in greater depth.

COVID-19: Diagnosis and Treatment
The global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19) has presented major challenges for clinical laboratories, from initial diagnosis to patient monitoring and treatment. Initial response to this pandemic involved the development, production, and distribution of diagnostic molecular assays at an unprecedented rate, leading to minimal validation requirements and concerns regarding their diagnostic accuracy in clinical settings. In addition to molecular testing, serological assays to detect antibodies against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are now becoming available from numerous diagnostic manufacturers. In both cases, the lack of peer-reviewed data and regulatory oversight, combined with general misconceptions regarding their appropriate use, have highlighted the importance of laboratory professionals in robustly validating and evaluating these assays for appropriate clinical use.
Courbes algébriques planes = Plane Algebraic Curves
Resulting from a master's course at the University of Paris VII, this text is re-edited as it appeared in 1978. Various tools are introduced in connection with Bézout's theorem necessary for the development of the notion of the multiplicity of intersection of two algebraic curves in the complex projective plane. Starting from elementary notions on affine and projective algebraic subsets, we define the intersection multiplicities and interpret their sum in terms of the resultant of two polynomials. The local study is a pretext for the introduction of formal or convergent series rings; it culminates in Puiseux's theorem, the convergence of which is reduced by splits to that of the theorem of implicit functions. Various figures illuminate the text: we "see" in particular that the homogeneous equation x3 + y3 + z3 = 0 defines a torus in the complex projective plane.
Cost Accounting for Shared IT Infrastructures
Distributed client/server architectures are the technological backbone of today’s data centres. A usage-based allocation of infrastructure costs to business processes or users is often not possible as the necessary resource consumption measurements incur too much overhead. Reinhard Brandl proposes a method to derive estimates for the expected resource consumption of customer-oriented services during standard load tests. This facilitates the determination of usage-based cost allocation keys significantly. He implements the concept in a software tool kit and evaluates it successfully in a set of experiments with multi-tier database applications. In particular, he uses the determined consumption estimates as input parameters for Queuing Network Models which lead to highly accurate performance predictions. Finally, he analyzes how the method can be integrated into existing IT processes at the BMW Group.
