A Stakeholder Rationale for Risk Management : Implications for Corporate Finance Decisions
Ordinarily, only the interests of shareholders, debtholders, and corporate management are taken into account when analyzing corporate financial decisions while the interests of non-financial stakeholders are often neglected. Gregor Gossy develops a so-called stakeholder rationale for risk management arguing that firms which are more dependent on implicit claims from their non-financial stakeholders, such as customers, suppliers, and employees, prefer conservative financial policies. In order to perform panel data analyses of the determinants of corporate financial decisions, the author uses data from Austrian and German industrial companies. He shows that variables for a firm’s most important non-financial stakeholders explain the firm’s capital structure and cash holding decisions. His findings suggest that a firm’s choice of accounting standards have a moderating effect on the determinants of corporate finance decisions.
A Risk-Benefit Perspective on Early Customer Integration
Customer integration in the early innovation phase has been considered the method of choice in theory and practice. Growing experience with the concept has shown unexpected side effects that may even outweigh its recognized advantages. Therefore, management needs to be able to assess in advance whether the involvement of customers will add overall value to each particular innovation project. To support but not to replace the final managerial decision, a mathematical formula is developed. With the increasing integration of AI across various sectors, artificial intelligence (AI) is already playing a significant role in the healthcare industry, and its use is expected to grow further. AI systems used in image processing and computer vision algorithms have shown a significant ability to perform many operations such as segmentation, classification, and detection. This project presents the application of computer vision algorithms in the field of medical imaging for diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional purposes. This thesis explores the use of several computer vision algorithms to address different pathologies, specifically brain tumors (glioma) (see Appendix A) and knee osteoarthritis (OA), as well as tracking the progression of knee osteoarthritis using the Kellgren and Lawrence (KL) grading system, a common method for classifying the severity of OA into five grades. To achieve the desired impact, the project employs various techniques, including 3D segmentation for brain tumors, 2D segmentation for knee joints, and multinomial classification for determining the severity of knee OA injuries. The primary aims of the project are to enhance diagnostic accuracy, assist in creating treatment plans, provide an assistive tool for healthcare providers to make more informed decisions, leverage AI's capabilities to detect abnormalities that might escape the human eye, and streamline workflow. To facilitate these goals, the project incorporates a user-friendly UI, a website, and a Flutter-based mobile application, enabling healthcare providers to efficiently integrate these tools into their practice and improve patient care.

10 Years Southeast European Cooperative Initiative : From Dayton to Brussels
The Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI) was the first international instrument for "peace keeping and peace making". Conceived by the United States with full partnership and participation of the European Union, SECI was a response to the Dayton Agreement. SECI was convinced that sending troops and diplomats did not suffice. It called for a new strategy and approach that would promote economic and social development through regional cooperation. SECI understood that despite their differences, the countries of South East Europe shared many mutual concerns. For the international community, SECI was a prelude to a broader instrument - the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, launched in 1999. The approach was a success! This compendium of documents, agreements, analyses and essays gives a glimpse into decision-making processes and results achieved.
