This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Finite-State Methods in Natural Language Processing, FSMNLP 2005, held in Helsinki, Finland, September 2005. The 9th International Conference on Financial Cryptography and Data Security (FC 2005) was held in the Commonwealth of Dominica from February 28 to March 3, 2005. This conference, organized by the International Financial Cryptography Association (IFCA), continues to be the premier international forum for research, exploration, and debate regarding security in the context of finance and commerce. The conference title and scope was expanded this year to cover all aspects of securing transactions and systems. The goal is to build an interdisciplinary meeting, bringing together cryptographers, data-security specialists, business and economy researchers, as well as economists, IT professionals, implementers, and policy makers. We think that this goal was met this year. The conference received 90 submissions and 24 papers were accepted, 22 in the Research track and 2 in the Systems and Applications track. In addition, the conference featured two distinguished invited speakers, Bezalel Gavish and Lynne Coventry, and two interesting panel sessions, one on phishing and the other on economics and information security. Also, for the first time, some of the papers that were judged to be very strong but did not make the final program were selected for special invitation to our Works in Progress (Rump) Session that took place on Wednesday evening.

Fatigue Science for Human Health
Fatigue is quite a familiar sensation, one that everyone is likely to have experienced. Its molecular and neural mechanisms have not yet been elucidated, however, probably because of the complicated nature of its causes. To provide a broad forum for discussion, the International Conference on Fatigue Science was organized, the first being held in 2002 in Sandhamn, Sweden, and the second in 2005 in Karuizawa, Japan. Subsequently it was decided that the papers presented at the two conferences should be collected and incorporated in this pioneering work, Fatigue Science for Human Health. The book summarizes fatigue researchers' achievements, explains the status of the research on fatigue, and presents perspectives on remedies for chronic fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome. Extreme Programming has come a long way since its ?rst use in the C3 project almost 10 years ago. Agile methods have found their way into the mainstream, and at the end of last year we saw the second edition of Kent Beck’s book on Extreme Programming, containing a major refactoring of XP. This year, the 6th International Conference on Extreme Programming and Agile Processes in Software Engineering took place June 18–23 in She?eld. As in the yearsbefore, XP 2005provideda unique forum for industry and academic professionals to discuss their needs and ideas on Extreme Programming and - ile methodologies. These proceedings re?ect the activities during the conference which ranged from presentation of research papers, invited talks, posters and demonstrations, panels and activity sessions, to tutorials and workshops. - cluded are also papers from the Ph.D. and Master’s Symposium which provided a forum for young researchers to present their results and to get feedback. Asvariedastheactivities werethe topicsofthe conferencewhichcoveredthe presentationofnewandimprovedpractices,empiricalstudies,experiencereports and case studies, and last but not least the social aspects of agile methods. The papers and the activities went through a rigorous reviewing process. Each paper was reviewed by at least three Program Committee members and wasdiscussedcarefullyamongtheProgramCommittee.Of62paperssubmitted, only 22 were accepted as full papers.
Extreme Hydrological Events : New Concepts for Security
This proceedings contains the papers which were presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Extreme Hydrological Events: New Concepts for Security, which was held in Novosibirsk, Russia, from July 11-15, 2005. The workshop fell within the NATO priority research topic on Environmental Security, Disaster Forecast and Prevention. At the present time, the necessity of considerable deepening of our understanding about the nature of extreme and catastrophic natural and man-induced events, in particular hydrologic ones, becomes very topical, as well as the development of advanced methods for their prediction, including estimating probability of their occurrence and a risk related to them.
