Cutting Tool Technology : Industrial Handbook
Cutting Tool Technology provides a comprehensive guide to the latest developments in the use of cutting tool technology. The book covers new machining and tooling topics such as high-speed and hard-part machining, near-dry and dry-machining strategies, multi-functional tooling, ‘diamond-like’ and ‘atomically-modified’ coatings, plus many others.
Cryptography Arithmetic : Algorithms and Hardware Architectures
Modern cryptosystems, used in numerous applications that require secrecy or privacy - electronic mail, financial transactions, medical-record keeping, government affairs, social media etc. - are based on sophisticated mathematics and algorithms that in implementation involve much computer arithmetic. And for speed it is necessary that the arithmetic be realized at the hardware (chip) level. This book is an introduction to the implementation of cryptosystems at that level.
Countering Nuclear and Radiological Terrorism
One key outcome of this book is a better understanding of the independent contributions from across the international community of the scientific and technological components and the legal, policy and institutional components to combating nuclear/radiological terrorism. The book can serve as a tool for communicating the outcomes of the workshop to the multi-national scientific communities engaged in combating nuclear/radiological terrorism, and to those working at governmental and policy levels.
Computational intelligence for agent-based systems
In these last years the digital technology explosion has spawned so many new lifestyle models that the boundaries between "real" and "digital" are fiercely debated. This scenario has deeply changed the viewpoint about computer applications: computers become smaller, cheapest and hugely distributed in wired or unwired networks, applications become so flexible and intelligent as to tailor its communication facilities in order to increase the usability of the system. Such data-intensive, unstructured spaces featured by minimal or no centralized control flow, present a challenge for traditional methods of analysis, design and integration of advanced, distributed and intelligent computer systems. Within this challenge, an important role is played by two important research areas : Fuzzy Technology, thanks to its ability to exploit the tolerance for imprecision to achieve tractability and Agent Technology, thanks to its nature to employ agent-wise communities to carry out complex goals by means of smart interaction, cooperation, and pro-activeness.
Codici cifrati: Arne Beurling e la crittografia nella II guerra mondiale = Cipher codes : Arne Beurling and cryptography in world war II
The story of the German codebreaking is told in detail for the first time and has all the makings of a thriller, but with elements that make it an excellent introduction to the field of cryptography, as well as a vibrant and human portrait of the society of the time: a desperate wartime situation, political and espionage intrigue, the sometimes incomprehensible yet always fascinating genius of the main architect of its success — mathematician Arne Beurling—the difficulties and tricks of the trade, but also the systematic and obscure work of a crowd of codebreakers who treat their situation as if it were a normal job. The author, Bengt Beckman, was for years, after the war, head of the cryptanalysis department of the Swedish intelligence agency.

Matematica e cultura in Europa
Managing Weather and Climate Risks in Agriculture
In many parts of the world, weather and climate are one of the biggest production risks and uncertainty factors impacting on agricultural systems performance and management. Both structural and non-structural measures can be used to reduce the impacts of the variability (including extremes) of climate resources on crop production. While the structural measures include strategies such as irrigation, water harvesting, windbreaks etc., the non-structural measures include use of seasonal to interannual climate forecasts, improved application of medium-range weather forecasts and crop insurance. This book based on an International Workshop held in New Delhi, India should be of interest to all organizations and agencies interested in improved risk management in agriculture.
Management of the Addicted Patient in Primary Care
لThe text is logically organized and key information is easily accessible. The introductory section offers the reader important background and rationale for evaluating and treating addiction in primary care. Following a useful presentation of addiction "basics" (i.e., definitions, neurobiology, genetics, and the disease model), the majority of the book focuses on helping the physician gain insight and develop practical skills that can be readily implemented. A wealth of clinical assessment tools is provided, and the underlying psychosocial processes common to all forms of addiction are discussed. Both pharmacologic interventions and nonpharmalogic modalities are clearly outlined. Of particular note are specific cognitive-behavioral and motivational strategies that can be administered in an office-based setting. The role of community-based recovery support systems is considered as well. Since a complete understanding of why and when to refer is critical to the management of this often life-threatening condition, criteria for referral are detailed. Bulleted clinical "pearls" further aid the reader in gaining insight into treating this difficult patient population.
Law, surveillance and the humanities
Explores key issues such as the use and legitimacy of surveillance to address a global health crisis, the role of surveillance in the experience of indigenous peoples in post-colonial societies, how surveillance interacts with gender, race, ethnicity, and social class, and the interaction between technology, surveillance, and changing attitudes to expression. how philosophy and sociology can help to correct biases and law and politics can offer new approaches to the legitimacy, use and implications of surveillance.
La musica del Big Bang : Come la radiazione cosmica di fondo ci ha svelato i segreti dell’Universo = The music of the Big Bang : How the cosmic background radiation revealed the secrets of the Universe to us
Cosmic microwave background radiation is the residue of the great heat following the Big Bang. A tenuous sign, over 13 billion years old, in which the answers to many of the questions about the nature of our Universe are hidden. Discovered by chance in 1964, in the last forty years this fossil trace of the origins of the Cosmos has been explored with every available means. Two Nobel Prizes in physics have already been awarded for research involving it, the last in 2006 for the results of the COBE satellite. Much of the information encoded in the cosmic background radiation was impressed by the superimposition of acoustic waves present in the early Universe: a "music" of the Big Bang, which cosmologists have tried for years to reconstruct, using techniques similar to those that allow to distinguish the sound of different musical instruments. Only recently have the first notes of this extraordinary cosmic symphony finally been revealed, but the investigation is not over yet. This book illustrates, with a language suitable even for non-specialists, the theories, observations and discoveries that have brought cosmology into a new era.
La genetica nell’infertilità maschile = Genetics in male infertility
The notable recent cognitive advances in the field of cytogenetics and molecular genetics have made it possible to identify chromosomal anomalies and gene mutations responsible for numerous male infertility, which were completely ignored until recently. The fact is not without relevance, if the principle is valid that the recognition of the causes of a disease is also the first and necessary approach towards its correct therapy. With this publication, the authors wanted to offer specialists working in the field of assisted reproduction an update on this complex subject, dealing with both genetic causes in male infertility and infertility in genetic diseases.
Climate Change Impacts for the Conterminous USA : An Integrated Assessment
In this volume, an improved Integrated Assessment methodology is used to analyse climate change impacts on agriculture, water resources, unmanaged ecosystems, irrigation, and land use in the United States and the economic implications of these impacts. This book contains a series of papers documenting the methods, models, analysis and results of this integrated assessment for a wide ranging set of scenarios describing future climate change. Innovations described include the integration of water resource and agricultural modeling and the refinement of an agriculture and land-use economics model to incorporate results from process-level ecosystem models of agriculture, water and natural ecosystem resources. Scenarios selected for this study address a range of uncertainties associated with choice of climate model, presence or absence of a ‘CO2-fertilization effect’, impacts on international trade in agricultural commodities and their consequences for producers and consumers.
Cell Adhesion and Cytoskeletal Molecules in Metastasis
In this volume, the expression of specific adhesion molecules within human cancer tissues are highlighted. The expression signatures from published DNA microarray and immunohistochemistry studies are detailed. The concept that the alteration of specific adhesion molecules influence the cancer migration ability and cancer damage responses is detailed in this volume; both features are essential for the survival of an invading tumor cell. Defining the minimal adhesion receptors preserved on cancer cells during tumor progression will define the metastatic adhesion signature. Understanding the metastatic adhesion signature will reveal vulnerabilities that could be exploited for the prevention and/or eradication of the invading cancer cell.
Cardiovascular MRI in practice : A teaching file approach
This text resource outlines the systematic approach to CMR interpretation. The depiction of a "core exam" and the modifications used for a variety of patient circumstances are demonstrated using simple visual assessment of the images. Special emphasis on the advantages of CMR relative to other modalities reinforces practical learning objectives, organized so that the reader starts with patient images – as one would in a clinical scenario – and works back to the didactic material.
