Flow Shop Lot Streaming Problems
Lot streaming is a process of breaking a batch of jobs into smaller lots, and then processing these in an overlapping fashion on the machines. This important concept can significantly improve the overall performance of a production process, and thereby make the operation of a manufacturing system lean. Flow Shop Lot Streaming introduces the reader to this significant production process, presents various analysis techniques, and allows the reader to quickly become conversant with the state-of-the-art techniques necessary to embark on new research directions. This text begins with an introduction to and a brief historical perspective of the lot streaming problem, and continues with generic mathematical models for this problem. Flow Shop Lot Streaming presents systematic analysis, algorithms, key ideas and illustrative examples using 2-machine, 3-machine, and the general m-machine flow shop lot streaming problems.

The Fast Software Encryption 2005 Workshop was the twelfth in a series of annual workshops on symmetric cryptography, sponsored for the fourth year by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR). The workshop concentratedonallaspectsoffastprimitivesforsymmetriccryptology, including thedesign, cryptanalysisandimplementationofblockandstreamciphersaswell as hash functions and message authentication codes. The ?rst FSE workshop was held in Cambridge in 1993, followed by Leuven in 1994, Cambridge in 1996, Haifain1997, Parisin1998, Romein1999, NewYorkin2000, Yokohamain2001, Leuven in 2002, Lund in 2003, and New Delhi in 2004. This year, a total of 96 submissions were received. After an extensive review by the Program Committee, 30 submissions were accepted.

Experiment and Natural Philosophy in Seventeenth-Century Tuscany : The History of the Accademia del Cimento
This work is to counter historiographies that search for the origins of modern science within the experimental practices of Europe’s first scientific institutions, such as the Cimento. It proposes that we should look beyond the experimental rhetoric found in published works, to find that the Cimento academicians were participants in a culture of natural philosophical theorising that existed throughout Europe.
Existence: Semantics and Syntax
This collection is an important contribution to the semantic and syntactic analysis of the expression of existence. The volume focuses on the three main linguistic constructions expressing existence: copular clauses, existential sentences, and (in)definiteness. The papers analyze the interaction between the basic notion of existence and pervasive phenomena of natural language, such as quantification and presupposition. The contributions represent state of the art research on theoretical and comparative issues related to the expression of existence, and make extensive reference to the semantic and syntactic facts of English and of various other languages. The world is a dirty place and getting dirtier all the time. The reasons for this ever-increasing lack of cleanliness are not hard to find, being basically caused by the actions of the six billion people who inhabit the planet. The needs of the people for air, water, food, housing, clothing, heating, materials, oil, gas, minerals, metals, chemicals, and so forth have, over the centuries, given rise to a variety of environmental problems that have been exacerbated or been newly created by the industrialization of the world, the increase in population, and the increase in longevity of the population. The costs of cleaning even fractions of the known environmental problems are truly enormous, as detailed in the volume Environmental Risk Analysis (I. Lerche and E. Paleologos, 2001, McGraw-Hill). The chances of causing new environmental problems, and their associated costs of clean up, are equally challenging in terms of anthropogenic influences and also of the natural environmental problems that can be triggered by humanity.
Environmental Bioremediation Technologies
Environmental contamination from both natural and anthropogenic sources is, today, a major environmental concern due to pervasiveness and persistence of many toxicants. It is considered as an inevitable evil of our progress and modernization. To decontaminate the soils, sediments and waters, polluted by anthropogenic activities, the scientists and technologists have evolved different technologies over the years. Although we have to pay high cost for physical and chemical environmental technologies, but they are not eco-friendly and safe. Hence, it was deeply realized to develop viable technologies employing microbes and plants to remediate not only metallic residues and radionuclides, but also the xenobiotic compounds like PCBs, PAHs, PCPs, petroleum sludge and the military wastes. Besides, these technologies are se- driven and do not disturb the sites in cleaning process.
