New Trends in Optimal Filtering and Control for Polynomial and Time-Delay Systems
0. 1 Introduction Although the general optimal solution of the ?ltering problem for nonlinear state and observation equations confused with white Gaussian noises is given by the Kushner equation for the conditional density of an unobserved state with respect to obser- tions (see [48] or [41], Theorem 6. 5, formula (6. 79) or [70], Subsection 5. 10. 5, formula (5. 10. 23)), there are a very few known examples of nonlinear systems where the Ku- ner equation can be reduced to a ?nite-dimensional closed system of ?ltering eq- tions for a certain number of lower conditional moments.

The eighteenth century has long been considered critical for the development of modern chemistry, yet many crucial features of the period remain largely unknown or unexplored, for general accounts--often built around Lavoisier--have remained quite selective. This volume presents new approaches and topics in an attempt to build a richer, fuller, more complex view of chemical work during the period. Themes include "late-phase" alchemy, professionalization, chemical education, and the links and relations between chemistry and pharmacy, medicine, agriculture, and geology.
New Mechanisms for Tissue-Selective Estrogen-Free Contraception
Combined oral contraceptives are the most convenient and accepted method of hormonal contraception. Nevertheless, the medical community and consumers constantly demand innovation, additional benefits during use and lower hormonal load despite the high safety profile of available products. At the Ernst Schering Research Foundation Workshop 52, new perspectives and mechanisms for tissue-selective, estrogen-free contraception were discussed. The aim of the workshop was to bring together experts in the field of molecular and pharmacodynamic action of progestins with clinicians and medical experts to discuss potential medical endpoints, physiological reactions and (bio)marker useful describing the tissue selectivity and the contraceptive action of new progestins in different target organs. A major factor for successful realization of these new concepts is a deeper understanding of local pharmacological responses to progestins in general and to new progestins in particular.
New Frontiers in Polymer Synthesis
It is generally accepted that a new material is often developed by ?nding a new synthesis method of reaction or a new reaction catalyst. Historically, a typical example may be referred to as a Ziegler–Natta catalyst, which has allowed large-scale production of petroleum-based polyole?ns since the middle of the 20th century. New polymer synthesis, therefore, will hopefully lead to creation of new polymer materials in the 21st century. This special issue contributed by three groups focuses on recent advances in polymer synthesis methods, which handle the cutting-edge aspects of the advanced technology.
New Computational Paradigms : Changing Conceptions of What is Computable
This book examines new developments in the theory and practice of computation from a mathematical perspective, with topics ranging from classical computability to complexity, from biocomputing to quantum computing. The book opens with an introduction by Andrew Hodges, the Turing biographer, who analyzes the pioneering work that anticipated recent developments concerning computation’s allegedly new paradigms. Le più recenti acquisizioni della neuropsicologia cognitiva hanno consentito di focalizzare la natura dei processi linguistici e comunicativi, individuando i correlati fisiologici ed anatomici sottostanti alla produzione (encoding) e alla comprensione (decoding) del linguaggio. La prima parte del volume intende esplorare i paradigmi, i metodi e gli strumenti della neuropsicologia "per" la comunicazione. Nella seconda parte del contributo vengono prese in considerazione le componenti pragmatiche della comunicazione. Recenti modelli si sono occupati in particolare di alcuni fenomeni peculiari dello scambio comunicativo che mettono in rilievo il ruolo prioritario del "voler dire" nella comunicazione ordinaria (ironia, comunicazione idiomatica, metafora e, più in generale, linguaggio iconico o figurato). La terza parte del libro analizza il piano comunicativo non-verbale, con particolare attenzione alla comunicazione delle emozioni. Più specificamente vengono prese in considerazione le componenti mimiche e vocali nell’encoding e nel decoding delle emozioni. Questo volume, rivolto a neuropsicologi, psicologi, logopedisti e medici generici, potrà essere un utile strumento di lavoro anche per gli specializzandi di tali discipline.
