Nutrients and pollutants from coastal communities and dozens of rivers flow into the Gulf, including material from the Mississippi River watershed, which drains over one third of continental United States. The Gulf of Mexico has been continuously exposed to petroleum hydrocarbons for millions of years from natural oil and gas seeps on the sea floor, and more recently from oil drilling and production activities located in the water near and far from shore. Major accidental oil spills in the Gulf are infrequent; two of the most significant include the Ixtoc I blowout in the Bay of Campeche in 1979 and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in 2010.

Grid Computing: Achievements and Prospects, the 9th edited volume of the CoreGRID series, includes selected papers from the CoreGRID Integration Workshop, held April 2008 in Heraklion-Crete, Greece. Instead of yet another theory on good governance, this book presents a substantiation of contemporary notions. It builds on the theoretical foundations for taking an overall perspective on social contexts and culminates in a systemic framework that captures social structures based on first principles of viability and sustainability. The framework at hand enables applicants to view social contexts holistically while at the same time envisioning a rich picture of what leverages the implementation of social purposes beyond the boxes of the professional disciplines: social structures can be assessed, strengths and weaknesses identified and measures arrived at. Ultimately, the required structures can be tailor-made to align forces for a joint implementation of purposes. Globalization and Health : Challenges for health law and bioethics

GPCE and ICFP are both sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery. The quality and breadth of the papers submitted to GPCE 2005 was impr- sive. All 86 papers, including 5 papers for tool demonstrations, were rigorously reviewed by 17 highly quali?ed Program Committee members. The members of the Program Committee ?rst provided in-depth individual reviews of the s- mitted papers, and then debated the merits of the papers through an extended electronicProgramCommitteemeeting.After much(friendly) argument,25r- ular papers and 2 tool demonstration papers were selected for publication. The ProgramCommittee provided extensive technical feedback to the authors of the submittedpapers.Theconferenceprogramwascomplementedwiththreeinvited talks, three extended tutorials, and three all-day workshops.
Galling Arthropods and Their Associates ; Ecology and Evolution
The book addresses recent developments in the ecology, evolution, systematics, physiology, and biodiversity of gall-inducing arthropods, with individual contri butions ranging in scope from detailed descriptions to profoundly synthetic stud ies. One underlying theme of the book is the various impacts of gall induction that indirectly affect insect communities on the host plant. The other important contri bution is the highly intricate and dynamic interactions between galling arthropods and their uniquely specialized host plants. Included also are chapters that discuss biodiversity and distribution patterns of gall-inducing arthropods, and biological control of invasive gall-inducing arthropods and of invasive trees. We believe that this book makes an important contribution to the knowledge of galling arthropods and their associates and to the development of robust, general principles of the ecology and evolution of these organisms.
Functional imaging and modeling of the heart ; 3rd International workshop, FIMH 2005, Barcelona, Spain, June 2-4, 2005, Proceedings
The FIMH conference was the ?rst attempt to agglutinate researchers from several complementary but often i- lated ?elds: cardiac imaging, signal and image processing, applied mathematics and physics, biomedical engineering and computer science, cardiology, radi- ogy, biology, and physiology. In the ?rst two editions, the conference received an enthusiastic acceptance by experts of all these communities. FIMH was ori- nally started as a European event and has increasingly attracted more and more people from the US and Asia. This edition of FIMH received the largest number of submissions so far with a result of 47 papers being accepted as either oral presentations or posters. There were a number of submissions from non-EU institutions which con?rms the growing interest in this series of meetings. All papers were reviewed by up to four reviewers. The accepted contributions were organized into 8 oral sessions and 3 poster sessions complemented by a number of invited talks. This year we tried to allocate as many papers as possible as oral presentations to facilitate more active participation and to stimulate multidisciplinary discussions.
From disaster response to risk management : Australia's National Drought Policy
In 1992 Australia’s Commonwealth and State governments announced the introduction of a National Drought Policy adopting an innovative risk management approach, which received broad support from Australia’s major political parties and the policy community. This trail-blazing attempt and the experiences with the development and implementation of this policy over the past decade have intrigued the international scientific and policy communities. The present book comprises an academically focused collection of papers, which the Editors hope will provide others moving in a similar direction with the benefit of experience. The work highlights the successes and challenges of a move from disaster to risk management in responding to drought. As such it will be a valuable and useful addition to the international literature on drought preparedness and response.

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has planned to start the so-called “assessment on transformative change” if approved by the IPBES plenary to be held in 2021
