Essentials of Computer Organization and Architecture

Addresses all necessary organization and architecture topics, but concise enough to be appropriate for a single-term course. Its focus on real-world examples and practical applications encourages students to develop a “big-picture” understanding of how essential organization and architecture concepts are applied in the computing world. In addition to direct correlation with the ACM/IEEE guidelines for computer organization and architecture, the text exposes readers to the inner workings of a modern digital computer through an integrated presentation of fundamental concepts and principles.

Environmental Effects of Afforestation in North-Western Europe : From Field Observations to Decision Support

Recognising the need for effective decision making in relation to land-use change, this timely book develops a series of tools for estimating the environmental impacts of afforestation. It also presents guidelines and decision support systems (DSS) to enable both policy makers and forest managers to maximize the benefits and minimize the adverse effects of afforestation. This book will provide a valuable resource for both graduate students and researchers in forest, environmental and biological sciences, as well as for landscape planners and policy makers involved in afforestation projects at local, regional and international levels.

Entrepreneurship in Emerging Domestic Markets : Barriers and Innovation

As one examines worldwide economic growth over the past decade, it is clear that the U.S. economy has surpassed most of the industrialized world, both in its rate of growth and its ability to create wealth. Entrepreneurship is critical to this growth—entrepreneurs recognize the potential of new ideas, design applications, develop new products, and successfully bring products to market. They build companies and create jobs, generating new opportunities for wealth creation.

Energiya—Buran : The Soviet Space Shuttle

In Energiya-Buran: the Soviet Space Shuttle, the authors describe the long development path of the Soviet space shuttle system, consisting of the Energiya rocket and the Buran orbiter. The program eventually saw just one unmanned flight in November 1988 before the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union sealed its fate. After a Foreword provided by lead Buran test pilot Igor Volk, the authors look at the experience gradually accumulated in high-speed aeronautics with the development of various Soviet rocket planes and intercontinental cruise missiles between the 1930s to 1950s and the study of several small spaceplanes in the 1960s. Next the authors explain how the perceived military threat of the US Space Shuttle led to the decision in February 1976 to build a Soviet equivalent, and explore the evolution of the design until it was frozen in 1979.

Elisha Bartletts Philosophy of Medicine

This volume is a scholar's edition of the first systematic American work on the philosophy of medicine, An Essay on the Philosophy of Medical Science (Philadelphia, 1844), by Elisha Bartlett (1804-1855). The book is divided into two parts: Part I consists of a critical introduction that gives a biographical sketch of Elisha Bartlett and situates his empiricist philosophy of medicine within the philosophical debates of the various theoretical schools of medical practice of early nineteenth-century America. Short summaries of Bartlett's other writings and important addresses are presented, and many of the reviews of Bartlett's work that appeared in the medical journals of his time are discussed Also, the influence of the Paris clinical school on Bartlett's philosophy is shown. Part II contains the Essay, and includes a previously unpublished manuscript of Bartlett's philosophy of therapeutics, which develops some of the ideas of the Essay and adds another facet to Bartlett's philosophy of medicine.

Elevating video content creation with ai assistance = ارتقاء إنشاء محتوى الفيديو بمساعدة الذكاء الاصطناعي

We developed an AI Assistant equipped with features such as description crafting, title generation, keyword extraction, image captioning, clickbait detection, and sentiment analysis. To achieve these functionalities, we proposed a model for generating video descriptions using ResNet50 as a feature extractor and a LSTM network with an attention mechanism as a sequence generator, achieving a BLEU-1 score of 0.907 and a ROUGE-L score of 0.645. For keyword extraction, we utilized Sentence Transformer to identify strategically relevant keywords from the generated descriptions. For title generation, we fine-tuned the BART model, achieving a ROUGE-L score of 0.45. For clickbait detection, we used SVC classifier with linear kernel and TF-IDF vectorization for feature extraction, resulting in 96% accuracy. Our sentiment analysis model using a CNN-LSTM architecture achieved 80% accuracy in analyzing comments on videos. For image captioning, we employed a feature extractor with a CNN layer followed by an LSTM model, achieving a BLEU-1 score of 0.53. Our platform empowers creators by simplifying complex tasks and offering deeper audience engagement insights, making it a powerful tool in the evolving digital content creation.

Econophysics of Wealth Distributions: Econophys-Kolkata I

Understanding the distribution of income and wealth in an economy has been a classic problem in economics for the last hundred years. Apart from the rapidly decaying number density of people with their income crossing over to a robust power law for the very rich, known as the Pareto power-law, after Vilfredo Pareto. With the availability of accurate data from finance/income-tax departments of various countries, several robust features of the income distribution have been established. This field had been dormant for more than a decade, although accurate data had been accumulated over this period. The recent enthusiasm comes mainly from the physicists modelling of markets in analogy with physical systems like gases etc. This is the first book reporting exhaustively on these developments over the last decade by leaders in the field

Dynamic Epistemic Logic

Dynamic Epistemic Logic is the logic of knowledge change. This is not about one logical system, but about a whole family of logics that allows us to specify static and dynamic aspects of multi-agent systems. This book provides various logics to support such formal specifications, including proof systems. Concrete examples and epistemic puzzles enliven the exposition. The book also contains exercises including answers and is eminently suitable for graduate courses in logic.

Diapause in Aquatic Invertebrates : Theory and Human Use

Contributors to this new book are leaders in the field of diapause studies, and many authors were participants at a recent workshop on diapause in aquatic invertebrates (Pallanza, Italy 2003). The book consists of two major parts, as indicated in its title: Phenomenology of diapause and significance of this adaptation in scientific and practical uses. Application to newly developing areas such as cultivation of live food, like rotifers or Artemia, in modern aquaculture is covered, as are aspects of diapause that promote the colonization of new environments by facilitating the passive transport of resting stages of invasive species. Creation of artificial ecosystems outside of the Earth’s biosphere using dormant propagules becomes an actual possibility as humankind develops plans to colonize our nearest planets.

Deepfake detection

The rise of large language models (LLMs) and the increasing sophistication of deepfake images have made detecting synthetic content a pressing challenge. Several approaches have been proposed to tackle this problem, including statistical analysis, and machine learning algorithms. In this project, A novel zero-shot approach is proposed that utilizes the power of LLMs to detect fake text. The pre-trained LLM is fine-tuned to enhance its ability to differentiate real and fake text. The approach uses the LLM to detect text by analyzing the log probabilities of the text. For detecting fake images, computer vision algorithms and neural networks are used to analyze facial features. The facial region is cropped and preprocessed and the neural network identifies patterns indicative of synthetic content.

Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design I

The design of complex artifacts and systems requires the cooperation of multidisciplinary design teams using multiple commercial and non-commercial engineering tools such as CAD tools, modeling, simulation and optimization software, engineering databases, and knowledge-based systems. Individuals or individual groups of multidisciplinary design teams usually work in parallel and separately with various engineering tools, which are located on different sites, often for quite a long time. At any moment, individual members may be working on different versions of a design or viewing the design from various perspectives, at different levels of detail. In order to meet these requirements, it is necessary to have effective and efficient collaborative design environments. These environments should not only automate individual tasks, in the manner of traditional computer-aided engineering tools, but also enable individual members to share information, collaborate and coordinate their activities within the context of a design project. CSCW (computer-supported cooperative work) in design is concerned with the development of such environments.
