Cancer du sein avancé : 29es Journées de la Société Française de Sénologie et Pathologie Mammaire (SFSPM) Avignon, 14–16 novembre 2007 = Advanced breast cancer : 29th Days of the French Society of Senology and Breast Pathology (SFSPM) Avignon, November 14–16, 2007

These days are an opportunity to remind and persuade those less convinced that the treatment of this very particular phase of the disease is not limited to a score played by a few speakers or even by medical oncologists alone; but on the contrary, we must bring into play a truly philharmonic polyphonic ensemble, united around the patient and comprising all the players in multidisciplinary care: general practitioner, surgeon, radiotherapist, imaging specialist, gynecologist, general practitioner, psychologist, algologist, supportive care workers ...

Bulk Metallic Glasses : An Overview

Bulk Metallic Glasses explores an emerging field of materials known as bulk metallic glasses. It summarizes the rapid development of these materials over the last decade and includes documentation on diverse applications of bulk metallic glasses; from structural applications to microcomponents. Some of the applications covered are pressure sensors, microgears for motors, magnetic cores for power supplies, and nano-dies for replacing next generation DVDs. The chapters cover current theories and recent research including an atomistic theory of local topological fluctuations, atomistic simulations, and unique microstructures of these amorphous materials. Other topics include glass formation, glass forming ability, and the underlying mechanisms and physical insights of these criteria. The mechanical deformation of bulk metallic glasses, fatigue, fracture, and corrosion behaviors of these materials are also reviewed.

Building the Foundation : Whole Numbers in the Primary Grades : The 23rd ICMI Study

This twenty-third ICMI Study addresses for the first time mathematics teaching and learning in the primary school (and pre-school) setting, while also taking international perspectives, socio-cultural diversity and institutional constraints into account. One of the main challenges of designing the first ICMI primary school study of this kind is the complex nature of mathematics at the early level. Accordingly, a focus area that is central to the discussion was chosen, together with a number of related questions. The broad area of Whole Number Arithmetic (WNA), including operations and relations and arithmetic word problems, forms the core content of all primary mathematics curricula. this study presents a meta-level analysis and synthesis of what is currently known about WNA, providing a useful base from which to gauge gaps and shortcomings, as well as an opportunity to learn from the practices of different countries and contexts.

Building a Data Warehouse : With Examples in SQL Server

The book is organized as follows. In the beginning of this book (chapters 1 through 6), you learn how to build a data warehouse, for example, defining the architecture, understanding the methodology, gathering the requirements, designing the data models, and creating the databases. Then in chapters 7 through 10, you learn how to populate the data warehouse, for example, extracting from source systems, loading the data stores, maintaining data quality, and utilizing the metadata. After you populate the data warehouse, in chapters 11 through 15, you explore how to present data to users using reports and multidimensional databases and how to use the data in the data warehouse for business intelligence, customer relationship management, and other purposes. Chapters 16 and 17 wrap up the book: After you have built your data warehouse, before it can be released to production, you need to test it thoroughly. After your application is in production, you need to understand how to administer data warehouse operation.

Buccal patches of salbutamol

The Potential of alternative routes of application compared to the traditional oral route is constantly growing. Especially in transmucosal applications for the oral cavity, the oral mucosa's accessibility, excellent blood supply, by-pass of hepatic first pass metabolism, rapid repair and permeability profile make it an attractive site for local and systemic drug delivery. Technology advance in mucoadhesive, sustained drug release, permeability enhancers and drug deliver vectors are increasing the efficient delivery of drug to treat oral and systemic disease...

British Media Coverage of the Press Reform Debate : Journalists Reporting Journalism

This book provides a detailed exploration of the British media coverage of the press reform debate that arose from the News of the World phone hacking scandal and the Leveson Inquiry. Gathering data from a content analysis of 870 news articles, Ogbebor shows how journalists cover debates on media policy and illustrates the impact of their coverage on democracy

Breast cancer genetics, immunology, and immunotherapy : An interdisciplinary approach

Publishes comprehensive volumes on immune and genetic mechanisms of breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis. The role of molecular genetics, interleukins, chemokine receptor, and tumor-infiltrated lymphocytes-TILS in breast cancer are explained. Targeting myeloid determinants, SiRNA loaded in drug delivery nanosystems, nucleic acid and drug dual agent nanoplatforms, and oncolytic virotherapy are also discussed in the treatment of breast cancer, particularly in multidrug resistant and metastatic breast cancer.

Brain Metastases

Brain metastases are the most dreaded complication of systemic cancer, affecting approximately 170,000 people a year, a far greater incidence than primary brain tumors. Advances in modern chemotherapy have led to an improved control of system cancers, often with agents that poorly penetrate the central nervous system, resulting in an increasing incidence of brain metastases. Traditional chemotherapy has had little impact on brain metastases. The main therapeutic option is radiation therapy, and in a small number of patients - surgery. However, refinements in all of these treatments offer some positive outcomes and an increased ability to stratify patients based on certain criteria.

Bone Resorption

Bone Resorption, the second volume in the series Topics in Bone Biology, deals with the osteoclast, the bone-resorbing cell, its origins, its enzymes, the regulation of osteoclast activity, and structural aspects of bone resorption. Diseases involving osteoclast function are discussed from the genetic viewpoint in two chapters that span transgenic mouse models to human pathology. Another chapter treats diseases of osteoclast function. Because osteoporosis may be considered a disease in which the bone resorption rate exceeds formation, a separate chapter deals with current and potential therapeutic approaches to this widespread disease that affects both men and women. Bone metastases and an analysis of the central role of the osteoclast in this condition are treated in the concluding chapter.

Biotechnology for the Future

One area that has attracted much attention is the use of cell factories for the production of a wide range of chemicals. This area illustrates very well the definition of biochemical engineering , and it has therefore been chosen as the focus of this volume. The use of cell factories for production of chemicals dates back to the production of penicillin, ethanol, acetone–butanol, glycerol and further to enzymes and other antibiotics. All these products were traditionally produced by cell factories that naturally produce these compounds. With the introduction of genetic engineering it has,This volume therefore contains chapters on concepts of metabolic engineering on detailed modeling of cellular systems

This book has a strong applied approach and describes emerging and established industrial processes, as well as the underlying theory of the process, and the biology of the microorganisms involved. Chapters have been written by personnel from leading biomining companies, consultants and internationally recognized researchers and academics
