Middleware 2005 ; ACM/IFIP/USENIX 6th International Middleware Conference, Grenoble, France, November 28 - December 2, 2005, Proceedings
Today, middleware is a key part of almost any application. Gone are the days when middleware was only used in the IT industry for high-end applications. Rather than middleware being part of the IT world, today IT applications r- resent only one aspect of middleware. With the increase in distribution, network capacity, and widespread deployment of computing devices (in homes, auto- biles, mobile phones, etc.), middleware has surpassed the importance of operating systems as the platform where application development and deployment take place. This makes middleware very exciting as a research area but also a very challenging one since it encompasses many different concepts and techniques from a wide varietyof ?elds: networking, distributed systems, softwareengine- ing, performance analysis, computer architecture, and data management. Middleware 2005 in Grenoble, France, was the 6th edition of an increasingly successfulconference. The scope of the conference has been slowly widening with every edition to accommodate new ?elds and applications.

Microsimulation Population Projections with SAS : A Reference Guide
This book for a researcher needs to perform microsimulation for population projections, building its own model with a common statistical software such as SAS might a good option, because this software is widely used among scholars and is taught in most social sciences departments. We define what is microsimulation: a modelling based on individual-level data rather than aggregated level data, in which transitions between the states are determined stochastically with a random experiment. We finally provide some examples of microsimulation models used by social scientists.

Microprocessor 5 : Software and hardware aspects of development, debugging and testing - the microcomputer
Focuses more particularly on the first two generations of microprocessors, those that handle 4- and 8- bit integers. Microprocessor 5 – the fifth and final volume of this series of books – first presents the hardware and software aspects of the development chain of a microprocessor-based digital system. Finally, to round up the series and offer a historical perspective, the architectures of the first microcomputers are detailed. A comprehensive approach is used, with examples drawn from current and past technologies that illustrate theoretical concepts, making them accessible.
Microprocessor 4 : Core concepts - software aspects
Addresses the software aspects of this component. Coding of an instruction, addressing modes and the main features of the Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) of a generic component are presented. Futhermore, two approaches are discussed for altering the flow of execution using mechanisms of subprogram and interrupt. A comprehensive approach is used, with examples drawn from current and past technologies that illustrate theoretical concepts, making them accessible.
Microprocessor 3 : Core concepts - hardware aspects
Calculation is the main function of a computer. The central unit is responsible for executing the programs. The microprocessor is its integrated form. This component, since the announcement of its marketing in 1971, has not stopped breaking records in terms of computing power, price reduction and integration of functions (calculation of basic functions, storage with integrated controllers). It is present today in most electronic devices. Knowing its internal mechanisms and programming is essential for the electronics engineer and computer scientist to understand and master the operation of a computer and advanced concepts of programming.
Microprocessor 2 : Communication in a digital system
Focuses more particularly on the first generations of microprocessors, that is to say those that handle integers in 4 and 8-bit formats. The first chapter presents the calculation function and reminds the memory function. The following is devoted to notions of calculation model and architecture. The concept of bus is then presented. Chapters 4 and 5 can then address the internal organization and operation of the microprocessor first in hardware and then software. The mechanism of the function call, conventional and interrupted, is more particularly detailed in a separate chapter. The book ends with a presentation of architectures of the first microcomputers for a historical perspective. The knowledge is presented in the most exhaustive way possible with examples drawn from current and old technologies that illustrate and make accessible the theoretical concepts. Each chapter ends if necessary with corrected exercises and a bibliography. The list of acronyms used and an index are at the end of the book.
Microprocessor 1 : Prolegomena - calculation and storage functions - models of computation and computer architecture
Presents the computation function, recalls the memory function and clarifies the concepts of computational models and architecture. A comprehensive approach is used, with examples drawn from current and past technologies that illustrate theoretical concepts, making them accessible.
Micrometastasis
Distant metastases are the main cause of cancer-related death. The onset of the metastatic process can now be assessed in cancer patients by the use of immunocytochemical and molecular methods that allow the identification of disseminated carcinoma cells in regional lymph nodes, peripheral blood or distant organs. There is increasing evidence that the detection and characterization of tumor cells present in bone marrow or peripheral blood can provide clinically important information. In this book, leading experts in the area of micrometastasis research provide an overview that summarizes the current state of research on micrometastatic disease in patients with solid tumors. In each chapter, the technical aspect as well as clinical relevance of micrometastasis detection is discussed. The book addresses basic researchers as well as clinicians involved in the treatment of cancer patients.
Micromechanics of Heterogeneous Materials
The micromechanics of random structure heterogeneous materials is a burgeoning multidisciplinary research area which overlaps the scientific branches of materials science, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, technical physics, geophysics, and biology. Micromechanics of Heterogeneous Materials features rigorous theoretical methods of applied mathematics and statistical physics in materials science of microheterogeneous media. The prediction of the behavior of heterogeneous materials by the use of properties of constituents and their microstructures is a central issue of micromechanics. This book is the first in micromechanics to provide a useful and effective demonstration of the systematic and fundamental research of the microstructure of the wide class of heterogeneous materials of natural and synthetic nature.
Micromechanical Photonics
The purpose of this book is to give the engineering student and the practical engineer a systematic introduction to optical MEMS (Micro electro mechanical systems) and micromechanical photonics through not only theoretical and experimental results, but also by describing various products and their fields of application. After an overview on optical MEMS and micromechanical photonics, the book describes extremely-short-external-cavity laser diodes tunable laser diodes, a resonant sensor and an integrated optical head. It then addresses optical tweezers, the new technology employed to manipulate various types of objects in a variety of research and industrial fields. Coverage progresses through topics on the design and fabrication of an optical rotor and evaluation of mixing performances of micro-liquids for future fluidic applications. In the final chapter, the fundamentals and applications of the near field are described for the future development of micromechanical photonics, as well as near-field features, theoretical analyses, experimental analyses and applications mainly related to optical recording.
Micromanufacturing : International Research and Development
We have come to know that our ability to survive and grow as a nation to a very large degree depends upon our sci- tific progress. Moreover, it is not enough simply to keep abreast of the rest of the world in scientific matters. We 1 must maintain our leadership. President Harry Truman spoke those words in 1950, in the aftermath of World War II and in the midst of the Cold War. Indeed, the scientific and engineering leadership of the United States and its allies in the twentieth century played key roles in the successful outcomes of both World War II and the Cold War, sparing the world the twin horrors of fascism and tota- tarian communism, and fueling the economic prosperity that followed.
Micromammals and Macroparasites : From Evolutionary Ecology to Management
Small mammals are among the most ubiquitous and important components of terrestrial ecosystems. They have coevolved, and now coexist, with a diverse array of parasites, such that not only are all aspects of their biology influenced by parasitism but they also play key roles in the transmission and maintenance of parasitic diseases. This book provides a comprehensive survey of the diversity and biology of metazoan parasites affecting small mammals, of their impact on host individuals and populations, and of the management implications of these parasites for conservation biology and human welfare. Designed for a broad, multidisciplinary audience, it will be an essential resource for researchers, students, and practitioners alike in the fields of parasitology, evolutionary ecology, wildlife management, and conservation biology.
