Earnings Management : Emerging Insights in Theory, Practice, and Research
In the wake of corporate accounting scandals, the bursting of the Internet bubble, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act—designed to protect investors and consumers from such excesses—"earnings management" (the set of managerial practices and decisions that influence accounting choices and operating cash flows) has become a focal point of business strategy and academic research. Earnings Management: Emerging Insights in Theory, Practice, and Research is the most comprehensive book to date on the subject, aimed at scholars and practitioners in accounting, finance, economics, law, and public policy. Tracing two key strands of research over the past 25 years—one focused on explaining the phenomenon and one on proposing suggestions for improving practice—the authors highlight theoretical and empirical contributions to the field, as well as regulatory innovations and corporate applications.
Early Nutrition and its Later Consequences : New Opportunities; Perinatal Programming of Adult Health - EC Supported Research
Health problems such as hypertension, tendency to diabetes, obesity, blood lipids, vascular disease, bone health, behaviour and learning and longevity may be ‘imprinted’ during early life. This process is defined as ‘programming’ whereby a nutritional stimulus operating at a critical, sensitive period of pre and postnatal life imprints permanent effects on the structure, physiology and metabolism. For this reason, academics and industry set-up the EC supported Scientific Workshop -Early Nutrition and its Later Consequences: New Opportunities. The prime objective of the Workshop was to generate a sound exchange of the latest scientific developments within the field of early nutrition to look for opportunities for new preventive health concepts. Further, a closer look was taken at the development of food applications which could provide (future) mothers and infants with improved nutrition that will ultimately lead to better future health. The Workshop was organised by the Dept. of Pediatrics, University of Munich, Germany in collaboration with the Danone Institutes and the Infant Nutrition Cluster, a collaboration of three large research projects funded by the EU.

The book provides readers with a better understanding of the factors that influence decisions, and put forward solutions to facilitate the rapid adaptation to changes in the business environment and customer needs through intelligent upgrade interventions. Further, it examines a number of sample cases from various contexts including car manufacturing, utilities, shipping and the furniture industry. The book offers a valuable resource for both academics and practitioners interested in the upgrading of capital-intensive products and services.
Dynamical Systems with Applications Using Mathematica®
Dynamical Systems with Applications using Mathematica® provides an introduction to the theory of dynamical systems with the aid of the Mathematica computer algebra package. The book has a very hands-on approach and takes the reader from basic theory to recently published research material.
Dynamic Programming : A Computational Tool
This book provides a practical introduction to computationally solving discrete optimization problems using dynamic programming. From the unusually numerous and varied examples presented, readers should more easily be able to formulate dynamic programming solutions to their own problems of interest. We also provide and describe the design, implementation, and use of a software tool, named DP2PN2Solver, that has been used to numerically solve all of the problems presented earlier in the book. This computational tool can be used by students to solve academic problems if this book is used in coursework, and by practitioners to solve many real-world problems if the state space is not too large.
Dryland Ecohydrology
By combining the analysis of biotic and abiotic components of terrestrial ecosystems, this volume provides a synthesis of material on arid and semiarid landscapes, which is currently scattered in a number of books and journal articles. The focus on water-limited ecosystems is motivated by their high sensitivity to daily, seasonal, and decadal perturbations in water availability, and by the ecologic, climatic, and economic significance of most of the world's drylands. Conceived as a tool for scientists working in the area of the earth and environmental sciences, this book presents the basic principles of eco-hydrology as well as a broad spectrum of topics and advances in this research field.
Drugs used in murder and drugs facilitated sexual assaults
Since ancient times, the methods of committing crimes have varied and the methods of killing have varied. The killer has always sought to hide his crime. One of the methods of killing is poisoning the victim, but with the development of science also methods for detecting toxins inside the victim's body have developed. Also, in recent decades, drugs facilitating sexual assault have spread, which aim to make the victim unconscious and paralyze his resistance...

Drug design : A conceptual overview
The newer research areas in pharmaceutical sciences, particularly molecular modeling and simulations, prompted a more efficient drug discovery process. Informatics integrated with pharmaceutical sciences (cheminformatics and bioinformatics) became an essential component of drug research. Drug informatics such as genomics and proteomics assists in the Rational Drug Design (RDD). This emerging discipline is known as “Computer-Aided Drug Design" (CADD), which has profound application in RDD. The advanced and adequate practice in drug design informatics is essential for pharmacy graduates. Hence, a companion for acquiring knowledge on these concepts is vital. The students of B. Pharmacy, M. Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Pharmaceutics), biotechnology, biomedical engineering and other interdisciplinary fields may find this book as a reference guide.
